Description:

2006 Castello Dei Rampolla Vigna Dei Alceo:
"Shows beautiful aromas and flavors of currant, toasty oak, tobacco and licorice. Full and very polished, with a wonderful finish. A gorgeous young wine. Layered and structured. To be released spring 2011. Best after 2014. - JS" 98 Points - Wine Spectator

"The 2006 D’Alceo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is a much tighter-wound wine than the Sammarco but it also seems to be holding back a lot more sheer density in reserve. Full-bodied, rich and monstrously tannic at this stage, it doesn’t taste too different than it did when I first sampled it from tank in November 2006! The wine possesses dazzling inner perfume, refined tannins that need time to emerge and exceptional overall balance. It is a fabulous effort from Rampolla. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031."

"Castello dei Rampolla is one of the benchmark properties in Tuscany, and for good reason. At their finest, these are some of the most elegant, luscious wines readers will come across. A recent bottle of the 1999 Vigna d’Alceo was easily one of the very finest Tuscan wines I have ever had the privilege of drinking." 96 Points - Antonio Galloni - Wine Advocate

"D’Alceo is a drop dead gorgeous wine that oozes intensity, blackness, fruitiness, exotic spice and smoke. In the mouth, this beautifully executed super Tuscan is about as rich, smooth and opulent as they come. You’ll love the lingering notes of mature berry, chocolate and espresso that drive the long, smooth finish." 96 Points - Wine Enthusiast

VINIFICATION:
"Hand picked harvest, no chemical treatment and the harvest follows the lunar calendar. Alcoholic fermentation is performed in barriques, skin maceration for 15/20 days for the Cabernet Sauvignon and 15/20 days for the Petit Verdot. Malolactic fermentation in barriques. The wine is blended and aged 12 months in barriques." -Winemaker

VITICULTURE:
"For the past ten years the farm has used only Biodynamic Agriculture. The grape harvest is done manually, selecting only the best grapes, in the period between September and October. Every operation in the field and in the cellar is done following the lunar phases, and the biodynamic calendar. Castello dei Rampolla uses only their own grapes and does not buy wine, that is why each vintage is often different in quantity and quality. It really all depends on nature." -Winery

2007 VINA COBOS BRAMARE MALBEC MARCHIORI VINEYARD:
"A big, ripe, powerful rendition of Malbec, with boysenberry, linzer torte and loganberry fruit pumping along mocha-infused toast. The lush finish is loaded with velvety tannins that let the fruit drip on. An impressive, hedonistic style. Drink now through 2012. 1,330 cases made. -JM" 93 points Wine Spectator

"Good deep, bright ruby. Dark berries, sassafras and chocolate on the nose. Sweet, dense and lush without any impression of heaviness; conveys an almost porty ripeness but notes of cherry pit and licorice are enlivened by firm acidity. Finishes with sweet, seamless tannins and excellent length and lift." 92 points - Stephen Tanzer - International Wine Cellar

WINE:
"The vines are over 50 years old in the Marchiori vineyard. The grapes are fermented with selected and native yeasts in 8-ton closed-top stainless steel tanks. There is a 4 to 5-day cold soak, followed by 25 days total maceration. Native malolactic fermentation in barrel occurs for 3 months to completion. The wine is aged for 18 months in Taransaud, Demptos and Seguin Moreau French and American oak barrels of which 68% is new."

"Deep, black/magenta color accompanies intense aromas of chambord, sweet tobacco, violets and earth. The firmly structured, tightly woven palate intrigues with hints of ripe black blackberry, plum and bergamot enhanced by subtle overtones of vanillin. Balanced acidity accompanies prominent, fine-grained tannins over a lasting finish." -Winery

WINEMAKING TEAM:
"Paul Hobbs visited Argentina in 1989 and he became immediately interested in both the terroir and Argentine culture, noticing the unique potential for Malbec and other varietals in the region. In 1997 Andrea and Luis met Paul in California and they decided to found Viña Cobos. Since then, Paul and his Argentine partners have grown their portfolio of ultra-premium wines to include Cobos Nico, Bramare, and Felino which continue to receive even greater accolades."-Winery
