Description:

2003 CIABOT BERTON BAROLO ROGGERI:
"This shows very ripe fruit, with plum and dried flower aromas that follow through to a full-bodied palate, with velvety tannins and a chewy finish. Big and juicy. Best after 2010. 500 cases made."-92 Points Wine Spectator

WINE:
"This is made from Nebbiolo grapes grown exclusively in the Roggeri subzone. The rich structure of this wine, conveyed by the clayey soil, is enhanced by the low yield in the vineyard, which never exceeds 45 hl/ha. This is one of the reasons why this Barolo is subject to a traditionally long period of maceration. It is aged in French oak barrels the characteristic notes of which harmonise perfectly with the wine" - Winemaker

"The vineyards are cultivated in observance of the vine’s ecosystem. Controlled grass growth is implemented between the rows of vines, eliminating the need for chemical weed-killers."

"Defensive treatments are restricted to the very minimum, using products with a low environmental impact, and fertilizers are only used in emergencies. With the aim of respecting the vine’s rhythms and improving quality, the production of grapes per plant is meticulously controlled, reducing the number of buds with winter pruning and the number of bunches with thinning in summer." -Winery

This wine also scored 86 points from Antonio Galloni of the Wine Advocate.

2006 RED HEAD STUDIO ESULE:
"55% cabernet sauvignon and 45% cabernet franc. Deep, bright red. Spicy red- and blackcurrants, cherry and rose on the nose, with a subtle undercurrent of minerals adding vivacity. Taut, sharply focused red berry aromas are firmed by fine-grained tannins and given bite by cracked pepper. Finishes with gentle lift to its pure, clinging red frut flavors. Plenty of $200 Bordeaux would kill for this wine's fruit, and its restraint and balance will surprise those who have written off all Australian wines as organ grinders playing only in the muddy key of Mollydooker." -92 points- Josh Raynolds- International Wine Cellar

"Polished, velvety and generous with its black cherry, blueberry, smoke and roasted meat flavors, persisting right through the supple finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2010 through 2016. 800 cases made." -91 points Wine Spectator

This wine also scored 91 points by Jay Miller of the Wine Advocate, but no tasting notes were given.

WINE:
"Like a hypothetical blend of St. Emillion and Napa. At first there are pretty purple flowers like lilys and violets. This gives way to classic claret aromatics like cassis and plum. Full and rich on the palate with verve." -Importer

WINEMAKING:
"The average age of the vines is 19-46 years. The soils are a mix of sandy loamy soil and red clay. The fruit was harvested when there was a partial shrivel in order to create a wine of immense color and extract. The fruit was crushed, destemmed and fermented in stainless steel fermenters. Color and flavor extraction was achieved by pumping the cap of skins twive daily with the fermenting juice. The must was pressed using a gentle tank press and the pressing fraction was inluded for structure. The wine was aged on yeast solids for 8 months. The wine was matured in tight grained French Barrels for 20 months and then bottled without filtration." -Importer

2006 GORMAN ZACHARY'S LADDER:
"This energetic blend is about two- thirds Wahluke Slope merlot, with the balance cabernet and petit verdot. There's an exuberant fruit basket scent of blueberry, mulberry and plum. The succulent fruit flavors are lifted and bright, as pure as a beam of blue light, and would complement braised short ribs beautifully."-93 Points Wine & Spirits

"The 2006 Zachary’s Ladder is 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. Beautifully defined, sharp and tight. Still compact, dense, hard and young, but loaded with mixed flavors of black cherry, iron and rock. The tannins are tough and hard, the wine is firm and focused."-90 Points - Wine Enthusiast

REGION:
"The Columbia Valley AVA lies mostly in Washington state, with a small section in Oregon. The Cascade Range forms its western boundary with the Palouse regions bordering the area to the east. To the north, the Okanogan National Forest forms a border with the AVA and Canada."

"It encompasses the valleys formed by the Columbia River and its tributaries, including the Walla Walla River, the Snake River, and the Yakima River. The Columbia valley stretches between the 46th parallel and 47th parallel which puts it in line with the well known French wine growing regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy."

"The northern latitude gives the areas two more hours of additional daylight during the summer growing season than wine regions of California receive. The volcanic and sandy loam soil of the valley offers good drainage and is poor in nutrients, ideal in forcing the vine to concentrate its resources into the grape clusters."

This wine was also scored 88 points by Wine Spectator and 89 points from Wine Advocate.
