89 Pts Antonio Galloni - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2006 Cortona Syrah is a fresh, vinous wine with attractive dark fruit, flowers, spices and menthol. Medium in body, it possesses excellent depth and fine balance, but not quite as much varietal character as I would have hoped. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2014. These are the first wines that have been released by the new team at D'Alessandro being headed by Cesare Turini of Querciabella and Luca Currado of Vietti. The wines show a move towards a more classic style, although it will be a few years before the full scope of the changes under way at this property are fully evident." -89 Points - Antonio Galloni - Wine Advocate

WINE:
"This wine is made from 100% Syrah grapes, planted with a per hectare density ranging from 7000 to 8500 vines by Tenimenti d’Alessandro between 1997 and 2002, making it the result of the harvest of the winery’s youngest plants."

"The wine obtained from these young vines, outstanding in terms of pure fruit expression, with a full, rich, perfectly rounded flavour, is added a smaller proportion of the lots excluded from the final assemblage of Bosco."

"During fermentation, the macerations are generally shorter (around 15 days) than those applied to the must of the BOSCO selection; this is designed to give the wine a fruity, velvety taste that is very approachable on the palate. Some of the lots have been aged for 12 months in barriques used for the third time, others in large 34 hl barrels. -Winemaker

Estate:
"For us, quality is not only a value of primary importance, it's a way of life. Some twenty years on from our first experiments, with vineyards that have reached the ripe old age of 15 years in some parts, TENIMENTI D'ALESSANDRO is increasing its investments in the quality of the wines produced, thanks to the painstaking efforts and cooperation of illustrious vine-growers: our great friend and wine lover Luca Currado, one of the proprietors of VIETTI, a leading producer of Barolo, is today in charge of the wines, ably assisted by Christine Vernay, a famous winemaker from the Rhone Valley in France." -Winery

This wine was also scored 88 Points by Wine Spectator.
