Description:

2006 CHATEAU LE GAY:
"Under the administration of Catherine Pere-Verge, Le Gay has become a serious, super-concentrated, potentially long-lived Pomerol. The backward 2006 reveals complex notes of plums, black cherries, truffles, and chocolate in a big, masculine, full-bodied, virile style that begs for cellaring. This dense, chewy, concentrated effort has firmed up considerably, and appears set for a long life. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025+." -93 points Robert Parker

"This has lots of new wood, with ripe fruit and hints of coffee and dark fruits. Full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a slightly chewy finish. Needs time. Much better than from barrel. Best after 2013. 1,250 cases made. -JS" -90 points Wine Spectator

"Medium ruby-red. Dark berries, chocolate and a hint of menthol on the nose. Lush, broad, ripe and sweet; a very smooth, fine-grained young 2006 that finishes with suave tannins and subtle rising length." -89-91 points- Stephen Tanzer- International Wine Cellar

2005 OBERTO BAROLO VIGNETO ALBARELLA:
"There's sweet fruit on the nose, with lots of toasty oak, milk chocolate and lightly stewed fruit character. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and fruit, vanilla and mineral flavors. Long and bright. Best after 2011. 540 cases made." -92 points Wine Spectator

"The 2005 Barolo Albarella is soft-textured and generous in its minty, floral aromatics and sweet red fruit. This is another beautifully-balanced wine with elegant tannins and an approachable personality that is showing quite nicely today. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020."

"Oberto's 2005 Barolos are among the softest, most approachable wines of the vintage, yet they offer lovely overall balance. The wines all underwent malolactic fermentation in French oak, where they spent about six months prior to being racked into a combination of smaller barrels (70%) and larger 16-hectoliter casks (30%) to finish their aging." -91 Points- Antonio Galloni- Wine Advocate

WINE:
"Bright red garnet colour with light orange shades. Prominent notes of China Calissaia bark, tobacco and dried flowers linger in the fleshy rich aroma. The mouth shows a powerful and firm structure balanced by a moderate acidity which makes the wine drinkable and very pleasant. The bottle should be kept laying down and uncorked at least 1 hour before tasting. Serving temperature: 20 °C." -Winery

VINIFICATION:
"The vineyard is facing southwest and the soils are mostly clay. The average age of the vines is 35 years old. Manual harvesting of the overripe grape in 20-kg perforated crates through a careful selection of the bunches. Transfer in cellar within hours, grape crushing and destemming, and 15% must bleeding. Themo-controlled fermentation at 34 °C, with often and soft pumpovers. Long maceration of the marcs (about 350 hours); racking in barriques, where the natural malolactic fermentation takes place. The wine spends 24 months in all new barriques; 2 months in stainless steel vats and and 6 months in bottle." -Winery

This scored 89 points by Stephen Tanzer of the International Wine Cellar.
