Description:

2007 CHARBONNIERE VIEILLES VIGNES CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE:
"My notes on the dense ruby/purple-colored 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes (95% Grenache and 5% Mourvedre from 80-year-old vines) begin with the words 'serious stuff.' Deep, rich, and full-bodied with abundant notes of forest floor, truffles, earth, kirsch, raspberries, and black currants, this powerful, layered, multidimensional, long, ageworthy wine should drink well between 2012-2028."

"The Maret family runs this impeccably managed estate that has nearly 45 acres of vineyards, primarily in the northeast sector of the appellation. They also have a large holding on the high plateau in the northern tier of Chateauneuf du Pape from which they produce their superb Les Hautes Brusquieres from a lieux-dit of the same name. Only two 2008s were made. All of the 2007s performed better out of bottle than they did last year." (October 2009) -94 Points Robert Parker

"A round, fresh style, with mouthwatering floral, red licorice, red cherry and plum notes all wrapped up by nice racy acidity. Pure and driven on the finish, with a lingering hint of roasted apple wood. Best from 2010 through 2024. 750 cases made." (October 2009) -92 points Wine Spectator

"Bright red. Expressive raspberry and cherry-scented bouquet is complicated by notes of baking spices and wilted rose. Finely etched red fruit flavors gain depth with air and take a turn to blacker raspberry, with a zesty note of white pepper emerging on the back. Already very tasty but has the balance to age." (Jun/Feb 2010) -92 points- Josh Raynolds- International Wine Cellar

WINE:
"The blending of Grenache and Mourvedre gives a lush, soft, elegant wine with rich blackberry/blackcurrant, violet and cracked pepper notes. The palate is round, supple and dominated by this fruity and spicy complexity, with a mineral taste and a long finish." -Winery
VINEYARDS:
"This cuvee is a blend of 80 to 100 years-old vines from Grenache and 45 years-old vines from Mourvedre. Grapes partly come from the rocky plateau called 'La Crau' (Grenache), just in the northeast of the village, and from the marneuses plots around the estate (for Grenache and Mourvèdre)." -Winery

VINIFICATION:
"The grapes are destemmed and crushed and put into a mix of wood and stainless steel vats for 3 to 5 weeks depending on the vintage at a temperature between 25 and 30° C. A release or a punching of the cap is done every 2 days and pumping over every day. The malolactic fermentation is made in at least 10% new barrels and the rest in vats. Ageing continues in barrels and big oak tanks during 12 to 18 months depending on the vintage." -Winery

2006 CHATEAU TEYSSIER CARRE:
"The 2006 Le Carre, rated 93, which was not reviewed in issue #181, is brilliant. Beautiful black fruit, crushed rock, and new oak aromas, a dense purple color, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and outstanding density as well as richness result in a successful wine that should evolve for 12-15+ years." -93 points Robert Parker

"From a small, single-vineyard plot of 3.5 acres, this shows intense fruit, very aromatic in character. Its concentration is immense, dark black fruits vying with spice, tar and sweet plum pudding flavors. The Cabernet Franc shows through well here, giving a perfumed finish." -92 points Wine Enthusiast

"Raspberry and black licorice aromas follow through to a full body, with an excellent concentration of ripe fruit, smoky wood and a long, flavorful finish of vanilla and berries. Best after 2012. 400 cases made." -90 points Wine Spectator

WINE:
"LE CARRE is a single-vineyard of just over one and a half hectares that abuts Clos Fourtet near the centre of the town of Saint Emilion. The vines date back to the middle of the last century and have been completely re-terraced since the purchase of the vines in 2004 from Château Canon, Premier Cru Classe." Winery

"With a cropping level of approximately 28 hectolitres to the hectare, double-sorting, and vinification in oak wooden vats, the wine- called 'packed and stacked' by Robert Parker Jr at it's debut- boasts a dense purple colour in addition to abundant quantities of black fruits, crushed rocks and flowers nicely wrapped in new oak, where it receives it's malolactic fermentation and ageing. Whilst the main part of the wine is made up by Merlot, the Cabernet Franc compliment is fermented in 400 litres barrels that are rolled during primary fermentation. 300 cases only are made." -Winery
