Description:

2009 Chateau Haut Barrail Medoc:
"The Haut Barrail 2009 has a very fine bouquet with cedar, black fruits, a touch of Xmas cake and sous-bois with good definition. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good acidity and a very composed finish with ample freshness. This is a very well made 2009 Cru Bourgeois." 90 Points - Neal Martin - Wine Journal

"A fruity and silky wine, with a good core of ripe fruit and fine tannins. Lots of new wood, too. Needs a little more fruit concentration in the midpalate. -JS" 87-90 Wine Spectator

"70% Cabernet Sauvignon 25% Merlot, 5% Malbec. Sweet damson and mocha nose. Soft, deep pile and caressing on the palate but still has a juicy fresh finish. Drink 2014 to 2020. (JH)" 16 out of 20 points, Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages

WINE:
"On arrival at the winery, the grapes are de-stemmed and gently crushed. The grapes then arrive in the vats for the alcoholic fermentation. During this first fermentation, regular remontages or pump-overs are effectuated in order to extract a maximum colour, aromas and tanins. The temperature is controlled about 30 to 32 degrees Celsius. After a period of about 15 to 18 days maceration, the wine is drained and the skins gently pressed. The second malolactic fermentation takes place in afterwards in separate vats. Following the end of the malolactic fermentations, the wines are raked in order to remove the heavier lees. Around mid January the wines are transferred to our barrels, of which 1/3 are renewed annually. After 18 months in barrel the wines are fined with egg whites and bottled at the Chateau." -Winery

WINERY:
"This ancient, noble estate and its windmill, also located in the town of Begadan, have existed since 1362. The chateau was originally called 'Maison de la Bernede'. It has since disappeared, but the windmill has survived. The oldest part of the existing windmill goes back to the early 17th century. Everything would seem to indicate that the house currently on the estate also dates from the 18th century. Representations of 'Vines and Wheat' are engraved on the building's pediment. Owner since 1987, the Gillet family did a lot of restauration and the first vintage for the Chateau Haut Barrail was 1995." -Winery

2009 - Campo Alla Sughera Adeo:
"Velvety wine, with currants, berries, chocolate and vanilla character. Full and soft textured. Delicious now." 90 points - James Suckling - JamesSuckling.com (08/11)

"A bright red, with morello cherry, black currant and floral notes, this is pure and fresh, wearing its oak with subtlety and lingering with a fruit and spice aftertaste. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2013 through 2023." 89 Points Wine Spectator (10/11)

"A 50-50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Adeo delivers bright fruit tones of fresh raspberry and blueberry with loads of spice at the back. Here it is: a perfect pasta wine." 89 Points Wine Enthusiast (2/12)

VINIFICATION:
"The height of the wine cellar is exploited, making the most of gravity to move the grapes, must and wines. After de-stemming, the steel maceration tanks are fed from a height without using pumps or augers, which can damage the solid part of the grape. Maceration, together with intense pumping and punching down, is carried out for 10 days at a controlled temperature. After de-vatting and first racking, the wine is decanted partly into steel tanks and partly into barrels for malolactic fermentation."

Ageing: wines made from a blend of vines are aged separately for 12 months in French oak barrels. The wine is assembled before bottling and refined for a further 4 months." -Winery

ESTATE:
"Campo alla Sughera is Knauf's winegrowing company based in the heart of Bolgheri, the homeland of great Italian wines. It is in this place that Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are able to express their great qualities. This ability to emerge from the "terroir" of Bolgheri is the basis of the company’s products. Adeo (Bolgheri DOC Rosso), a "blend" of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, refined for twelve months in French oak barrels and matured in the bottle for approximately four months." -Winery

VINEYARD:
"The vineyard was conceived according to two cardinal principles: maximum grape quality and maximum mechanization during growing. Campo alla Sughera has thus created a highly specialized vineyard which covers an area of about 20 hectares. The plots making up the vineyard are all located inside the Bolgheri DOC area, bordered by the Fosso di Bolgheri waterway, which runs alongside the estate itself."

"This is a terroir which is perfectly suited for the production of top quality wines, both red and white. The micro-climate benefits from sea breezes from the coast, which is just a few kilometers away." -Winery
