Description:

2006 Poole's Rock Hunter Valley Shiraz:
"Deep ruby with a bright rim. Dark berries, violet, olive and tobacco on the nose; smells a lot like a northern Rhone wine. Sappy blackberry and cherry preserve flavors are complemented by notes of violet pastille and black olive, with silky tannins adding shape and support. No excess fat here. Finishes gently sweet and nicely focused. This is balanced to age." 90 points - Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar

WINE:
"Black pepper and currant aromas with a deep red colour with hints of purple hue. Soft silky tannins supported by mulberry, wild blackberries and blackcurrant flavours. This is a medium-bodied wine which makes an ideal accompaniment to a wide variety of dishes, especially red meat dishes such as grills, roasts and casseroles, lamb, duck, pork or venison." -Winery

WINERY:
"Founded in 1988 by owner David Clarke, Poole's Rock Vineyard is the viticultural birthplace of Poole's Rock Wines, a Hunter Valley landmark that takes its name from the monolith on its southern boundary."

"Poole's Rock Vineyard was founded in 1988 in the Broke Fordwich district of the Hunter Valley by businessman David Clarke. Located 30 kilometres west of the main Hunter vineyard region, the original 32-hectare property is named after the monolith on its southern boundary, which in turn takes its name from a prominent local character who lived in the area over 100 years ago."

"It took two years to find the ideal site that has become one of the Hunter Valley's icon family vineyard estates. Planting commenced in 1988 with four prime hectares devoted solely to chardonnay, an endeavour described at the time by legendary Australian winemaker, Murray Tyrrell, as 'the viticultural showpiece of the Hunter Valley.'" -Winery

This was also rated 87 points by the Wine Advocate.

2009 The Hedonist Cabernet Sauvignon:
"Deep ruby. Bright, aromatic nose offers spicy blackberry and cherry aromas complemented by tangy white pepper and mineral overtones. Ripe cherry and blackberry flavors stain the palate, gaining sweetness with air and picking up dusty tannins and a hint of smokiness. Shows very good clarity on the finish, which echoes the dark berry note." 90 Points - Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar

Winemaking Notes:
"The fruit for the Hedonist Cabernet is grown biodynamically on our own vineyard situated in the Willunga foothills, McLaren Vale. Warm Summer days are cooled by evening sea breezes from St Vincent's Gulf, which lies a close proximity to the West. The soil is rich loam over clay with patches of underlying limestone, giving the wine a rich and fullness of pallet."

"The 2009 Vintage was characteristically mild and dry through mid to late Summer allowing for small berries within intense colour and flavour, giving high levels of ripe skin tannins."

"After gentle crushing, the must was pumped into traditional open fermenters with twice daily pumping over and hand plunging. Fermentation continued at up to 30 degrees Centigrade ensuring optimum extraction of long chain, soft tannins."

"This Cabernet was racked, fermentation was completed in oak. Maturation of the wine occurred in 70% new French and one year old American Oak." -Winemaker

This wine was also scored 88+ points by the Wine Advocate.
