Description:
"2012 was a classic vintage for Wilyabrup, consisting of perfect ripening conditions - rarely too hot nor too cold, and with consistent dry weather up to the end of April. The relatively cool February enabled the white wines to develop terrific flavor at lower sugar levels.
âChloeâ is produced from a two-acre plot located at the northeast corner of the Woodlands Vineyard. The plot lies at the top of a south facing slope where the soil is composed of deep loam topsoil over clay. This plot is the most shaded location on the vineyard- protected on the west, north and east with marri and peppermint trees.
The âChloeâ Chardonnay plot was hand picked on the 27th of February at just over 12 Baumé. There is a harmony of acidity and fruit that is prized in the northern reaches of Margaret River. Often this is seen in riper vintages in Karridale & Wallcliffe or balanced to cooler vintages in Wilyabrup and Margaret River proper.
Once the fruit was pressed and settled for 7 days, the clear juice was transferred into French barrels, of which just over one-third were new. Fermentation proceeded quickly and cleanly. Following fermentation the wine remained in barrel, with the lees stirred once a month. This wine was bottled in January 2013 after 11 months in barrel.
This is a style that combines flavor, restraint, wine-made complexity and power all at once. Creamy cashews, lime, green melon, struck match. It has power and cool acidity, through donât serve it too cool or youâll lose a lot of complexity. The fruit is enveloped in balanced high quality spicy oak, milky and toasty barrel work flavors, lime and melon of good intensity and richness, subtle flintiness and a long savory finish." - Importer
