90 Pts Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media

"Pale gold. Lemon zest, green apple, quinine and agave on the perfumed nose. Tight, focused and pure, offering intense citrus fruit flavors that pick up deeper melon and honey nuances with aeration. Finishes refreshingly bitter and stony, with subtle honeysuckle and anise nuances."

Description:

The 90 Pt Champagne deal that fans of Clicquot, Pol Roger, Taittinger and others should take advantage of!

What should every wine lover know about Michel Genet?
The Genet family has been making Champagne in the Grand Cru-designated village Chouilly (Cote des Blancs) for more than 100 years. They are not only a part of the village's regal history, but are rewriting it as we speak. Michel Genet is part of a passionate and growing class of ‘grower-winemakers’ whose pedigree and character can be instantly experienced the moment you take your first sip. Josh Raynolds’ of Vinous LOVED this release, raving about the wine’s "Lemon zest, green apple, quinine and agave on the perfumed nose. Tight, focused and pure, offering intense citrus fruit flavors that pick up deeper melon and honey nuances with aeration.” This is extraordinary quality!

Grower Champagne IS Artisanal wine.
Michel Genet grew his own grapes to make today’s wine for you. You like (maybe even love) wine. It’s personal. It’s Genet's family doing it…all of it. This is called a Grower Champagne, which represents only 3% of the region’s production, compared to the Grandes Marques (e.g., Moet et Chandon, Veuve, etc.), more corporate than family, that bought their grapes from dozens if not hundreds of sources to be marketed to nation(s) of consumers. Grower Champagnes have garnered a rabid following among wine lovers for the wines' profound flavors and stylistically exhilirating tasting experience. Ask any of the top wine merchants, sommeliers, critics and connoisseurs about their experience tasting Grower Champagne against comparably priced Grandes Marques. There is no comparison. This is Artisanal wine.

"The Genet family has been in the village of Chouilly for hundreds of years. The production of Champagne in this Grand Cru village has been the family’s principle activity for over 100 years. Originally, the Genet family produced their wine under a single Genet name. As has happened in many a wine-making family, a separation occurred between brothers Claude and Michel Genet in the early 1960s. The result was two premier estates with the same last name located directly across the street from one another! Luckily for us, Claude and Michel’s sons have been able to look past any differences their fathers may have had and have mended the family tree…how else do you think we were allowed to work with both estates?!

Today, Michel’s two sons, Vincent and Antoine run their 17 hectare estate, from which they produce five Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagnes, a Rosé and a Blanc de Noirs. The current cellar was formerly a major production facility for Möet & Chandon, which means space for expansion is not lacking!" - Importer
