91 Pts Robert Parker - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Possibly the best wine made in Listrac in 2010, this brilliant effort from proprietor Yves Raymond is a blend of 58% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Carmenere. Opaque purple in color, with a gorgeous nose of espresso roast, blackberry, cassis, incense and violets, the wine is deep, broad, savory, full-bodied, loaded with fruit, and has loads of glycerin and concentration as well as a terrific finish. This is classified-growth quality and should drink well for at least a decade or more. " (02/13)

89 Pts Wine Spectator

"The crushed damson plum and steeped cherry fruit is carried by a fine-grained structure, with light chalk, black tea and singed sandalwood hints filling in the finish. Drink now through 2017. 6,000 cases made. -JM" (2013)

89 Pts Wine Enthusiast

"A ripe and fruity wine produced from old vines at Saransot-Dupre, this has a flavor of blackberry along with the complex tannins of Listrac. Weighty, solid and just a touch rustic, this needs several years to age. -RV" (02/13)

Description:

Tasting Notes:
"This is the star of the vintage in Listrac in 2010. It is 'opaque purple in color, with a gorgeous nose of expresso roast, blackberry, cassis, incense and violets, the wine is deep, broad, savory, full-bodied, loaded with fruit, and has loads of blycerin and concentration as well as a terrific finish. This is classified-growth quality and should drink well for at least a decade or more.' 91 Points Robert Parker The Wine Advocate #205 February 2013" - Importer

The Estate:
"The Saransot domaine has been planted with vines since 1735. At the time, it was part of the Cru Hosten, the most celebrated property in Listrac during the 18th Century. In 1844, a Hosten family heir sold the buildings and vines to another Listrac winemaker Dupre. In 1868, Dupre renovated the old Hosten buildings and joined them with the Saransot vineayrds to create Chateau Saransot-Dupre. Dupre's children sold the property in 1875 to the Raymond family, long-established growers in Listrac who had been producing wine in the area since 1756, and the chateau has remained in the family ever since. In 1932, the wine was classed Cru Bourgeois Superieur, as standing it achieved again in 2003." - Importer

Wine Making:
"The soil of this domaine is mostly composed of clay and limestone (rather than the usual Medoc Clay/Gravel combination), and so Merlot and Cabernet Franc are the dominant varieties, and give this wine the supple round tannins and elegance that define the property. Cabernet Sauvignon (13%) and Petit Verdot (15%) contribute the power and structure. The vinification is traditional, in temperature controlled vats and oak aged in 25-30% new barriques each vintage." - Importer
