Description:

2007 Alante Cabernet Sauvignon Roman's Vintage:
"Dense ruby/purple-colored with notes of blueberries, blackberries and incense, this impressively endowed wine exhibits full-bodied richness, opulence and exuberance as well as a clean, pure finish. Approachable now, it should be drinkable in 5-6 years, and last for 15-20." 92 points Robert Parker

WINE:
"In 2007, the Van den Bosch family was blessed with the arrival of their first grandson, Roman, to whom this vintage is dedicated. That same year also blessed Napa Valley with one of the most perfect growing seasons in recent memory, and the results are extraordinary. Our 2007 Alanté Cabernet Sauvignon is the most beautiful example to date of what makes our little vineyard so special: its signature ability to create wines that seamlessly unite power with elegance, rich concentration with exquisite refinement."

"The moment this pure, single-vineyard Cabernet hits the glass, its charismatic personality is obvious. The rich, effusive aromas are initially dominated by concentrated ripe fruit: blackberries, sweet raspberry syrup, black cherries, and boysenberry purée. Significant notes of dark chocolate soon follow. As the wine continues to open up with aeration, it offers complex hints of spicy oak, black and white pepper, cinnamon, a touch of licorice, and delicate high tones reminiscent of lavender and crushed rock. The wine's initial impression on the palate is rich and full, with an almost white chocolate-like creaminess. Forward, dark red fruit erupts, and the flavors become those of luscious, chocolate-covered raspberries. At the same time, bright natural acidity provides a distinct sense of balance and finesse. Reflecting one of the most consistent characteristics of our vineyard, the ripe tannins that lend structure and substance to the wine are remarkably soft, polished, and velvety for a Cabernet with this level of concentration. The wine finishes with a long, seamless stretch of milk chocolate and sweet raspberries, lifted by elegant notes of spicy oak and framed by a beautifully silky texture. The 2007 Alanté is irresistible today, but will also reward careful cellaring for another 10 to 15 years." -Winery

2007 Quinta Da Romaneira Vintage Port:
"Christian Seely's own property. Even more opaque than the Silval, this has a very expressive nose with blackberry, liquorices, a touch of fruitcake and freshly tilled soil. Good definition. The palate has wonderful concentration, with an almost viscous texture, good acidity cutting through those layers of rich black, saturated fruit, leading to a honeyed, svelte finish that caresses the mouth like Fonseca. Superb. Tasted May 2009." 95 points - Neal Martin - Wine Journal

"The upside potential here is impressive. Dark garnet and violet color. Smoky, floral, mocha and strawberry jam scents are delightful and forebode the beauty waiting to be sipped. Soft, smooth raspberry and hints of milk chocolate are approachable and feminine in style. It is easy to enjoy this young but has the underpinnings to drink well for three decades. It will only improve from here and could use a solid eight to ten hours in a decanter to show its best during its infancy. Don’t be afraid to drink the Romaneira early on too." 93+ points - Roy Hersh - For the Love of Port

"Cherry drops, muscovado, black plum, bramble and morello cherry syrup. Drink 2011 to 2021. (RH)" 18+ out of 20 points, Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages

"The purple/black 2007 Romaneira Vintage Port offers up an expressive nose of Asian spices, espresso, blackberry, and fruitcake. Very concentrated on the palate with excellent depth, volume, and focus, this well-balanced offering will evolve for 8-10 years and drink well through 2027. It is a sleeper of the vintage." 90 points - Jay Miller - Wine Advocate

"Fine perfumed aromas, with an explosion of violets and black fruits. The wine has structure and flavors of tomato juice and blackberries. The tannins jump in, firm and dry with a final dense concentration. The best vintage so far from this newly revived quinta." 90 points Wine Enthusiast

WINERY:
"Quinta da Romaneira is the fruit of an investment partnership spearheaded by Christian Seely, the managing director of Quinta do Noval. The group purchased the estate in 2004 with a view both to restore its 180 acres of old vines and to develop a luxury resort focused on the food, wine, and culture of the Douro."

"Perched high above the Douro river, just east of Pinhão, Romaneira's vineyards occupy an ideal location, with the terraces cut into a steep bowl. The site, which had fallen into disrepair, has undergone a massive replanting with both traditional varieties and some experimental vines, including Syrah and Rhone clones of Grenache and Mouvedre." -Importer

This was also rated 88 points in the Wine Spectator and 87 points in the International Wine Cellar.
