Description:

This 2-pack includes 1 bottle of 2008 - Mater Domini Salice Salentino Riserva, and 1 bottle of 2012 - Montalbera Ruche Di Castagnole Monferrato Laccento.

2008 - Mater Domini Salice Salentino Riserva:
"This is the kind of wine that makes me love my job every day. You never know when someone is going to bring you something eye opening like this, and I immediately fell in love. The aromatics are so deep and powerful, one sniff was all it took to say WOW. Aromas of crushed rock and herbs combined beautifully with wild strawberry, blueberry and acacia flower aromas. The palate is bold, rich and nicely textured, with great balance. Loaded with complexity and not just fruit character, but great earth tones as well. Slightly tannic on the finish, but air really helps those melt in to the wine. If you were paying $80 to $100 on a wine list, it's still an incredible steal, that's how much I think of this wine." (12/12) - 95+ Pts Ian Dorin - Wine Library

Salice Salentino is a commune in southern Apulia that is a DOC as well. Always comprised of a high percentage of Negroamaro (minimum 85%), it is sometimes blended with small amounts of Malvasia Nera, as this wine is here.

Winery:
"Tenute Materdomini is a young winery located in the Salentino area, close to the town of Lecce. All the vineyards are in the best spot of the region, very close to the seaside at an altitude between 200-300 meters, above the sea level. Perfect characteristics to grow Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera. This estate focuses on producing wines traditionally made with the help of modern technologies." - Importer

"Tenute Mater Domini was founded in 2003 through the realization of a business venture by Pierandrea Semeraro, aimed at using the food resources already present in the territory of Salento, particularly those of wine and oil."

"The concept of quality for the company is primarily focused upon modernizing methods of agricultural production, paying particular attention to agricultural innovation, as well as respecting the traditions of the Salento area. The production of our products follows this philosophy “creating innovation, whilst being aware of our roots."

"Quality is not a subjective parameter, but is rather a philosophy aimed at achieving perfection. It is linked to the goal of not leaving anything to chance, and also to respecting the environment in producing a unique product ."

"The Salento peninsula is characterized by the running of two seas, representing an excellent field of application and experimentation of the concept of terroir."

"Terroir derives from many factors, ranging from the soil and climate, the particular grape varieties, the special features of the land, and above all to the wine tradition in this area." - Winery

2012 - Montalbera Ruche Di Castagnole Monferrato Laccento:
(Translated)"Fruity and spice (notes) jump on the nose with a rare essence of aromas, a vivid and stupendous Purple but not black color. A maximum expression of fruit, pure solid and rich, but not overwhelming. Ruche' a grape of absolute concentration and vigor for this vintage, a wine made with an exceptional rare, sumptuous sensorial and compositional quality. One of the rarest grape (varietals) available, one of the Italian wines with the greatest aromatic profile, made in style and (in the) most consistent version ever in this 2012 release, another exquisite showing of Montalbera tradition and innovation." (2012) - 99 Pts Luca Maroni - Annuario dei Migliori Vini Italiani

Wine:
"A wine of sublime originality. the sheer quantity of flowers and fruit in the bouquet derives from one of the finest and most intense grapes that, so majestically luxuriant and luscious, can be harvested and processed today. Yet harvested with such respect and absolute lucidity that their lively, chlorophyllic breath is retained immaculately in this wine. Chapeau, is a wine that once encountered can never be forgotten, one enjoyed is yet admirably appreciated." - Winery

Vineyard/Winery:
"A succession of rows perfectly trained and grown using the low Gujot system, a firmly established tradition of this area. Only the color of the leaves in autumn, or the experienced eye of the grower, can distinguish between the various vine varieties."

"The vineyards are all consolidated on one piece of land entirely covering four hills; the only land without vines is on the valley floor which, because of a business decision, is used to grow hazelnuts."

"This farm has 130 hectares of vineyard, divided into different types of vines. The first in order of importance occupies over 60 hectares: Castagnole Ruche Monferrato, the feather in the cap of Montalbera, the biggest producer of this promising native wine. The valleys surrounding the farm comprise 14 hectares of Barbera d'Asti, a well-known wine typical of Monferrato; 18 hectares of Grignolino d'Asti and several hectares of Chardonnay, Savignon and Viognier for an abundant vinification of white wines."

"Only in the last two years has the farm, continuously evolving and expanding, planted many acres of vineyards which, in their third year of cultivation, will start to be vinified. They will be added to the company's existing products, making ours an increasingly interesting and unique agricultural enterprise. " "Montalbera Castagnole Monferrato is also the location of the winery where all our wines are vinified, bottled and stored as finished products. After three years of renovation work, the Tasting Room has finally been completed. From here, gazing through the large windows, you can enjoy a superb panorama of the lakeside property and the wonderful valley entirely planted with Ruche and Barbera d'Asti."

"The cellar below, considered to have an optimal temperature, is completely reserved for the "barricaia" (barique cellar) where selected wines are aged. In these rooms of exposed brick, niches have been created to carefully store the "vintages not for sale", reserved exclusively for private tasting." - Winery
