93 Pts Wine & Spirits

"This is the second vintage from vines planted in 2003, at an elevation of 1,950 feet. It's deep and savory, with concentration that extends its airy spices long into the finish. The soil-inflected tannins bring rosemary scents to mind, carrying a sweet richness to balance their earthy power. Decant it for a meaty pasta dish, like a boar ragu." (06/13)

Description:

Wine:
"A smoky, slightly vegetal aroma sets the stage for this terrific Etna Rosso. The red fruit is sweet and focused, and there's a note of bitter cocoa, or cocoa nibs, that for me seems utterly typical of Nerello Mascalese. The tannins are refined and nicely balanced with the mineral finish. Organically produced. It will pair well with homemade pasta with porcini mushrooms, pork and all savory meat dishes." - Importer

Vinification & Aging:
"Carefully selected grapes are hand-picked: the Nerello Cappuccio in the first week of October and the Nerello Mascalese in the second week. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures for 10 days. The wine is racked and matures in 225 L French oak barriques for about 1 year, and it is refined in bottle for an additional 6 months before being released to the market." - Importer

This wine was also rated 88 Points by the Wine Spectator.
