90 Pts Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media

"Medium red. Complex aromas of strawberry, raspberry, anise and cracked pepper, with a seductive floral quality. Fleshy red berry flavors gain power with air, picking up floral pastille and candied licorice qualities. But this is impressively nervy as well, with a zesty peppery note adding vibrancy to the persistent, mineral-driven finish. I'll bet that this will age well on its balance." -90 points- Josh Raynolds- International Wine Cellar

WINE:
"The first of our 2006 Pinot Noirs to be released, it is the most forward and initially showy. This vintage surprised many of us with sometimes excessive yields and botrytis pressure which, necessitated strict sorting before the destemmer. Fortunately, I had the talented eyes and quick hands of Claudio Marcantonio, a Brazilian musician who had been an oral surgeon earlier in life. This guy possessed something like X-ray vision (or the nose of a truffle pig) that was fine tuned to spot even a small bit of botrytis in the center of a cluster rolling down our wooden sorting table. He kept everyone on their toes, and set the bar very high for some good-natured competition at the sorting table, all to the wine's benefit. I also declassified a number of barrels from a couple of the highest cropped lots out of our entire program, unbridling the potential of everything else with a 'Scherrer' label on it."

"This wine is a perfect example of this selection process and sets the stage for the upcoming releases of Pinot Noir. Nice, red fruits, slightly savory and mouth-watering, this wine follows in the footsteps of the 2005 bottling nicely yet with a more apparent roundness and appealing texture. 360 cases produced." -Winery

WINERY:
"In the mid-1970's, due to a normal teenage interest in alcoholic beverages, my family allowed me to make some wine from the family vineyard and beer at home (under adult supervision, of course). This led to a UC Davis degree as well as concurrent work at a local winery doing the dirtiest and most menial jobs imaginable...Enter Dehlinger Winery in the late 1980's. Tom Dehlinger was very supportive of my long-term plans and challenged me to develop a solid business plan, facilitating an important entry into my own project. By 1997, we were ready to make the move to a facility of our own. In anticipation of this, we were able to add Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay to supplement the Zinfandel we were producing, all from my father's vineyard in Alexander Valley." -Winery
