"Aged in oak for 15 months, the wine is dark, almost impenetrable purple in color. Firm tannins and smoky wood come together with currant, blackberry, plum and mineral aromas and flavors, those showing hints of Mediterranean herbs and light Oriental spices. Long and generous. Drink now-2012." -91 points- Daniel Rogov- Guide to Israeli Wines

@WineKnurd – Meet in Baltimore for crabcakes? As long as the crab has fins and scales, you’re on. Now there’s a new application for genetic engineering!
Actually, I used to eat crab, but no longer. In addition to the fact that I’ve become at least somewhat more observant – well, let’s just say that if I had an itch to eat crab and acted on it, there’s now a really good chance I’d be itching afterward!
I’m cellofello at care2 dot-com, if you want to discuss an order share offline.
WRT the business model of this site and “the other site” – there’s a lot of excellent wine that’s being dumped these days. Look at the Havens Bourriquot, though I’m not sure why GV chose to hold the fire sale on WL rather than Cindy.
You know, the Wall Street folks actually did make good on their promise to make it possible for me to afford fine wines. I just didn’t realize they planned to do it by trashing the economy and bringing their prices down.
I’d be curious to know how many Cindy deals are WL’s own unsold inventory they want to move, and how many are someone else offering GV their inventory at a bargain price because he’s got the customer base and mechanism to liquidate it quickly.
So why not go ahead and ask? As the saying goes, the worst that can happen is that they’ll say no.
Aw shucks. Lay off WineKnurd. He means well. He’s like a box of chocolates. Some of his stuff is really good. If there’s other stuff that’s not so good, just spiit it out. I just wish he’d stop calling me a moron e.
@cellofello — I think your statement is accurate, it makes more sense to me, and I know a few observant people who follow that rule. But a pretty authoritative ruling holds that only mevushal wine should be served. The rationale is that even passing the open bottle makes the wine unkosher, as would inadvertantly drinking from the glass of a non-observant jew, and since one can’t be sure those things won’t happen, the wine must be mevushal so as to remove any doubt. Many observant people follow that authority. As I wrote, I don’t think any of this makes any sense, but for those who have to deal with this issue, I wanted to share the facts as I know them. If you send me your email, I’ll send links to chapter and verse.
Has anyone had that Palomero? Not cheap, but is it worth it?
The ’01 was rated higher, but is $44 a good deal on this?
NCWino its time for bed! Did you see the Ribera offer that just came through on WTSO? Let me know by email if you want to split that 2 for free shipping offer. It might be too tempting to stay on lockdown!
@WineKnurd: You have me salvating! Sounds yummy! Thanks for the info. I’ll look for it!
No people It is Good Night Nancy, not Gracie or Irene. Nancy that is the knurd
Kinda like “Good night , Chet…….Good night David”
Good Dr I believe you meant to say “Come on Eileen”
I believe it’s “Good night Irene”
@BuffaloLou : Parting comments from George Burns to his wife Gracie.
@ BuffaloLou. No its not the same. Here is the description from my local wine shop that sells it:
2005 Amarone della Valpolicella (Corte Majoli)
Corte Majoli, Amarone della Valpolicella, Veneto, Italy 2005
Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella COCOA, LEATHER, DRIED FRUIT ROLL, FIGS, RAISINS An exceptional Amarone value, the Corte Majoli is made using the traditional method of drying the grapes to raisins, then pressing said raisins to extract their sweet goodness. The is fermented dry and yields a powerful red with rich aromas and flavors. The alcohol is elevated, as is normal for an Amarone, and the intensity goes to 11 on the 1 to 10 scale. This hearty red shows the fruit of Corvina, but also the classic Italian meaty earth tones typical of small artisan wines. Serving Suggestions: Hard Reggiano cheese, roast beef with olives and onions, risotto with sausage and Parmesan cheese
$29.99 each
How about “Georgie”?
@WineKnurd & CortezTK: OK guys, “Nancy”? “Gracie”? What are you guys talking about? Obviously over my head!
@CortezTK: “Nancy”?
I think you mean “good night Gracie”
@WineKnurd: WL has the Corte Campagnola Amarone for $40. Is this the same or no?
@WineKnurd. Good Night Nancy
They are very good! The Ripasso can be found for ~$15 and has a great nose of smoky mesquite! The Amarone is under 30 bones but is still a figgy monster. if you have the chance to try one don’t pazzz!
@WineKnurd: I have not. What can you tell me about them?
BuffaloLou have you tried the Corte Majoli Ripasso or Amarone?
Thank you ThinMan you are the reason I am able to wake up every morning.
@WineKnurd: You caught me! LOL!
Knurd, you need help. Crabcakes? what the hell are you dragging me into your crabcakes for, you are a sad sad person who craves attention. OK I’ll play I will give you attention, I will make believe your bible story is not pedantic, I will act surprised and thank you when you overstate the obvious, to sum it up I’ll put up with a know-it-all, and I will try to be understanding of your desperate needs and not be too critical of a person in need.
Ha BuffaloLou I saw you looking into your hand for the notes you wrote on Amarone!
@WineKnurd: Oh no! No Haven’s down the drain! What every you say! You have a dry sense of humor… You don’t have a sense of humor… you do… what ever! Amarone is the best… Amarone is the worst… Obama is a citizen… Obama isn’t a citizen… Just don’t dump the Havens! LOL!
Dr Unk I bow down to you. Gaja Sperss is more art than wine.
We are not worthy!
I received my drinking degree while working at Monsieur Touton in NYC back in the mid 90′s….I was able to taste some amazing wines and had a nice stash of the 95 Gaja Sperss…We sold a tremendous amount of the Guigal wines and I had the pleasure of meeting the family at one of the onsite tastings….The experience there was one that can’t be measured….
BuffaloLou you were supposed to vouch for me! If you don’t one bottle of Haven’s goes down the drain
@R-Dawg: I believe Manischewitz is made here in upstate NY. Could be wrong, but I recall that being the case. No offense to anyone, but talk about swill!
Dang! I was hoping for some Manischewitz at a good discount! I’m surprised not to see a case maximum on this one!
@GR–right on. Don’t agree with everything, but right on.
@Knurd–yeah, I think most people don’t realize that this and other discount sites are a venue to clear inventory that is not moving (either at the retailer or at the distributor or at the winery). Doesn’t mean that the wine is not good, it just means it’s not moving! Not the place to ask for Harlan at $100, etc.
@ Cellofello. My territory includes Maryland so I could meet you in DC in a month or 3. Or Baltimore for the best crabcakes in the universe!
Not even ThinMan or CortezTK can disagree with that!
BuffaloLou. Like I said I hope Amarone comes soon for you, enjoy it.
@WineLou – For an observant Jew to drink non-mevushal wine, I am not aware of any prohibition on the mere presence of someone who is not a Shabbat-observant Jew. The restriction I am familiar with is that a non-observant person cannot open or pour any non-mevushal wine that will be consumed by an observant Jew. But AFAIK the observant can open and pour a non-mevushal wine for anyone without erasing the kosher status of the wine.
@WineKnurd – I’m in VA and might be interested in one (but not three). However, I’m in the DC area and have no reason to go anywhere near NC. So unless you get up here anyway, there’s little or no cost savings. One of us would have to pay shipping to get wine to the other, or one of us would need to make a special trip to hand-deliver. That would cost more in gas than the cost of shipping! If you go in for 2, you might as well spend the extra $12 and go in for 3.
@CortezTK: No offense taken! Yes, I love my Amarone! GV has said he’s working on a deal. Truth be said, I’ve spent too much lately and this was a welcome break, to, yes, save for Amarone! LOL!
great now CortezTK hates me. Can’t win em all!
Grapevines it is! In fact the first grape mentioned in the Bible was so big 2 men had to carry it on a pole or something.
And you think grapes get ripe in the Barossa vale!
Most people with the exeption of course of the WineKnurd could never realize Dr Unk could possibly mean drunk wow! you are full of your self.
It’s got to be weed or grapevines……
Har Dr Unk where did you get your degree
@CortezTK. BuffalouLou can vouch for me so its really just my dry sense of humor. It doesn’t translate well over the internets.
Wine Quiz: What is the first cultivated plant mentioned in the Bible?
LOL, I’ve been using that name for years….That place might have a lawsuit on their hands….I’ll settle out of court for wine of course…..
BuffaloLou, you are a trip I mean that with all due respect, I can set my watch by the first Amorone post from you. I can not stand Amorone but my man I hope soon, very soon you get your wish because you have passion and I respect that. @ WineKnurd I never respected you, condescending comes to mind or maybe I just don’t get your humor.
Me and Thinman are like brothers. We may not agree on everthing but we are still members of the Haven’s slut club.
Me thinks the Thin Man might have Thin Skin. lol
@ Dr Unk.There is a bar in NC called Dr Unks! Most people do not realize that it spells out drunks…
All this time I thought GV was Santa…..
Hmm ThinMan it seems as if you thought my secret knowledge post was intended only for you, not for the dozens of others who are on this message board…
Gladly pass and save for some Amarone!
Knurd you can expect anything you want just do not talk down to grown adults as if God gave you the last secret. No kidding is this really an outlet for dumping wines that do not sell or not well established, shoot who would have known, certainly not someone like me who just can not grasp economics like a chemist can.
