"There is an extra bit of ripeness here, and it serves both to deepen the wine and also to add a slight bit of weightiness to it. Smells of fresh crushed apples, fully ripened pears and creamy oak jump from the glass, and those same attractions feature in the plump and outgoing flavors as well. At the finish, the wine does bring touches of heat and coarseness into play, but they are small bits of bother in a quite stunning effort." -Connoisseurs Guide to Wine

"Burgundian in style, this is firm, with toasty, buttery oak joining ripe apple and pear flavors. The oak gives this a spicy nutmeg scent. Ends on an elegant note, picking up a hint of marshmallow. Drink now through 2012. 186 cases made." -90 points Wine Spectator
"After graduating from the University of California at Davis in 1987, Bill Hunter spent time working at Rombauer Winery in St. Helena and Bonny Doon Winery in Santa Cruz. In 1989 he began making wine for Chauffe-Eau Cellars in Geyserville. After getting some experience, he wanted to be able to express his own style. So in 1994, he began making his own wine on the side. He made two barrels of Dutton Chardonnay from the original shop block and a barrel of Carneros Pinot Noir. Unfortunately, someone had already registered the brand 'Hunter', so he opted to use the brand name 'Chasseur', French for Hunter."
"The Durell 'Sand Hill' Vineyard is owned by William Price, and farmed by Steve Hill, and is located in the Southern Sonoma Valley on the eastern edge of the Sonoma Coast appellation. The breezy hillside elevation and the cool San Pablo Bay influences create a late ripening microclimate. The vineyard was planted in 1997 to a Wente selection from the Hyde ranch via Kistler's Sand Hill block. The notes of this wine are citric with flinty, wet stone characteristics." -Winery

Discussion On Tonight’s Wine

lets bring it on baby!!!!!!
From @cinderellawine: Serious collector deal brewing here tonight…in less than an hour!
I believe a top notch napa cab is due, no?
P.S. KMurph: good luck catching me!
Oh boy, Tom Mok, you’re the second to describe the wine as such. I only picked up two. I guess expectations are riding low ahead of time–I can only be pleasantly surprised, which is good.
Just opened a bottle of the Egia Enea Txakolina last night. What a uninteresting, bland, thin tasting wine! I totally didn’t enjoy it. I think this is the first wine that I bought from CW or WL that I didn’t like. That’ll teach me to take a risk in buying something that I can’t even pronounce.
I’m all about some icewine, although I’m sure there is no need to ever drop the price on icewine.. yummy in my tummy for sure!!!
You will love this wine I am certain. Chasseur Chards are mindboggling. Wish I saw this prior to selling out.
Either way you are still a douche, Chelios.
My feelings are bruised…I bet language like that is not allowed on the WLTV forums…
chelios is a douche.
Oh Cindy…Cindy …Cindy:
1) How dare you only offer me a wine at only $9 per bottle less than the lowest retail price on the web
B) and make me buy 3 for free shipping
iii) and have it be a white wine
Four) You are still not reading my mind and offering me exactly the wine that I am thinking about
5) I’d like to also be reimbursed for the time I spend on this site typing up my manifestos railing against wine offerings.
F) I only buy wines that have personal reviews from Julius. I have not seen one of those since the Elias Moro
vii) I was not offered a free cheese tasting tour by Kristen the last time I stopped by WL to pick up my Cindy wines…
Kyle- you’re awesome thanks!!!!
And yes D-Rod, I do remember you! And seriously, what can’t you love about lime green jackets? Now I know who to swerve around on the slopes!
How about a dessert wine before the Holidays? Icewine?
I was really tempted, especially after having just watched this WS video http://www.winespectator.com/video/content/id/17612
But the price is just to high for my pocketbook.
Jonathan: It’s cheap enough to open during a party if its horrible. I support woot as much as I support WL (they serve different needs) so I always say, when in doubt, do what addicts do!!!
A little off subject, but have any of you tried the firestone chard being offered on woot? i’ve been at firestone’s tasting room a few times, but the chards don’t stick out as memorable to me.
I’d suspect there’s a strong NYC contingent among WL customers. When I lived in Queens and had a car I would go to Jersey and visit WL every once and again. Now that I have to pay over 10 dollars an hour to rent one (zipcar), I’ll settle for free shipping and call it a day. KMurph, maybe you’ll remember me as the guy wearing an obnoxiously-bright lime-green snowboarding jacket and complaining about the mediocre snow in Pennsylvania on a random Saturday.
Adam, menupages.com says that there’s a Divine Bar on the upper west. Can’t say I’ve ever seen one in my neck of the woods.
Adam, nice knowing we have a few New Yorkers on this great site.I ‘m born and raised in NYC. Are you talking about Divino’s on second ave in the 80′s.Try Sandro’s pricey but authentic, like being in Italy.WL and CW what would I do without you???
I forgot a question mark and it’s driving me nuts. ? There!
NOOOO. Do you hear me CW. I cannot buy any wine. You keep offering these delicious deals but I am out of money. I’m saving for a wedding and a house. And there’s Christmas. And there are packs coming next week. And and and and and…..
KMurph’s the shit! BW’s ok too.
If I was a chard guy, I’d probably jump on this. Unfortunately, I much prefer the red blends. Can’t wait to open one of those CdP’s I got from Cindy several weeks ago (not to mention still enjoying the Finca Sandoval).
Cindy is a good thing….
Have we become a family of winos? It’s funny because I know I would recognize these user names at other sites.
Chasseur is a terrific wine and this is an incredible steal–especially when you factor in free shipping. I get it might be too much for your check book–that’s fine–but don’t knock the wine–
We’re getting spoiled… and i like it.
Hey D-Rod, i didn’t know you were a manhattanite..i was out at 9th and 50-something friday night at a restaurant called Amarone… I used to go to a place in upper east called Divine Bar, is it still there?
But only $9 less than the best offer on the web, no?
More then 20% off the already low WL price and 40% off the retail price and people are saying it isn’t a good deal!?! I say it is another great job WL, not my type of wine but they all can’t be (thankfully)
Easy pass. Looks like a nice wine and the WL/CW prices are always great. Have fun White lovers.
Thanks Pete.. It’s a boy alright!! Been awake almost 40 hours but it was so worth it!!!
As to tonight, a much needed pazzzz for me.. Ok QPR but not one I would drink so passing…
A Cindy deal at $35 (which isn’t much of a discount anyway) for a 91 IWC / 90 WS chard doesn’t quite cut it for me, I’m afraid. I’ll pass tonight.
This deal is solid! Use tarp $ if you must but buy before the vast right wingers get some…
Doesn’t seem fit for Cinderella.
THANK YOU! I was waiting on a wonderful Chardonnay from California!
Green Pea, Columbus Circle in this case is Columbus Circle on the upper west side of Manhattan, NYC. I’m on the upper east side of Manhattan myself.
I have lots of access to good Cali chards and the QPR does not appear to be there tonight. A welcomed rest for the bank account.
D-Rod
Are you from Columbus OH? I’m 45 minutes from your zip code
Love Sonoma Chards.
I would have loved a bigger discount but I am in for 3!
P.S. Columbus Circle wines has this at 9 bucks above list price??? lol… I know that they’re forced to have fat margins due to high overhead in their location, but pricing it above the winery’s SRP? ha!
Another reason why I buy almost exclusively from WL despite having 3 wine shops within a five block radius.
oh what a relief… we all need a day of rest.
One thing I noticed is no server hick ups. Better server? less traffic? chard doesn’t grab your pallet?
$35 for a chard under 95pts is a pass for me, but for chard lovers it ain’t bad I suppose.
Are you kidding me?
I heard it’s a boy … big congrats to PhilCT and his better half!
No thanks! couldn´t care less for whites, I might better drink a Coke
nice stuff … but I pazz.
Pass tonight. Spent too much lately and I’m more of a Sauv Blanc fan. Love that acidity!
Thank you for yet another fine offering!
I’m glad CW is showing some deal exhaustion, as I’m a bit exhausted myself. The discount from the regular going price, though respectable, is not reason enough to jump on this unless you’re an especially big fan of Sonoma Chards.
::sigh of relief::
Tasting notes sound good. Price looks good, too.
No Chards for me
