92 Pts Wine Spectator

"Plump in feel, with enticing star fruit, white peach, shortbread and verbena notes melding together. A light salted butter edge on the finish adds length and cut. This opens wonderfully in the glass. Drink now through 2018. 56 cases imported. -JM"

92 Pts Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media

"Brilliant straw. Mineral-laced aromas of pear nectar, lemon curd and honey are accented by floral and anise nuances. Supple and broad on entry, offering ripe orchard and pit fruit flavors and bracing, refreshingly bitter suggestions of citrus pith and quinine. Shows impressive power as well as vivacity on the impressively persistent finish, which leaves behind notes of bitter pear skin and smoky minerals."

92 Pts Jeb Dunnuck - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Renaissance Blanc (30% each of Roussanne and Grenache Blanc, with 20% each of Clairette and Bourboulenc) offers terrific purity and a fresh, lively, medium-bodied style that’s hard to resist. It has impressive complexity as well, with lots of citrus blossom, thyme and floral aromas and flavors. This is terrific white that should drink nicely for 2-4 years, with the caveat that these can be aged longer. as well."

Description:

"Lime skin is the first thing that comes to the nose, pine nuts too. It is slightly soft, but very vibrant and fresh with a long, pure, mineral finish.

The Sabon family is an ancient and well-regarded name in Chateauneuf-du-Pape fi rst mentioned in documents dating to 1540. Perhaps not as venerable as the Ameniers, but still eminently respectable. A more recent patriarch of the family, Seraphin Sabon fi rst bottled wine in the appellation under the family’s name in 1921. He also fathered three enterprising sons, all of whom established their own domaines: Joseph Sabon at Clos du Mont Olivet, Noel Sabon at Chante Cigale and Roger Sabon.

Domaine Roger Sabon was founded in 1952 and is currently run by Roger’s sons Denis and Gilbert. A third son, Jean-Jacques is deceased but his son-in-law Didier Negron is the current winemaker. Denis and his son Julien oversee the farming while Gilbert and his niece, Delphine run the office. It is quite the family aff air!

The size of the domaine has grown slowly over the years with 18 hectares in Chateauneuf du Pape, 8 hectares in Lirac and 8 hectares in Cotes-du-Rhone. Most of their holdings in Chateauneuf-du-Pape are located in the northeastern part of the appellation, where the soils are sandier with a high concentration of limestone, as well as a few parcels in Le Crau famous for its red clay and deep layer of galets.

Since 2001 Didier Negron has made the wines here but recently he’s begun to move away from demi-muids and barriques in favor of concrete and foudres. While the terroir of Roger Sabon, with its high concentration of sand and limestone, has always been inclined to a more ethereal and delicate style of Chateauneuf, Didier'' changes in the cellar have amplified these qualities – the wines have never been more engaging and lovely." - Importer
