"#2 Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2013! This takes the power of the vintage and puts it in its pocket for later, preferring instead to let mouthwatering briar, loganberry, mulberry and blackberry fruit strut its way forward, enlivened with roasted wood spice and supported by suavely but thoroughly embedded iron-tinged structure. Should cruise for two decades. Best from 2016 through 2035." |
96 Pts Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Canon la Gaffeliere delivers classic plum preserves, boysenberries and cigar box scents with wafts of underbrush, dried roses and cinnamon stick. Full-bodied, the palate is built like a brick house with a solid line of grainy tannins and racy freshness supporting the dense fruit, finishing with compelling purity and great length. |
95 Pts Robert Parker - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
"This wine shows wonderfully exotic tapenade, licorice, Christmas fruitcake, cedar wood, blackberry and sweet cherry notes in its strikingly provocative aromatics. On the palate, the wine is dense and full-bodied, with stunning concentration, purity, texture and length. It is full-bodied, silky smooth and seems to have more in common with the 2009 than one might expect, although the freshness and tannin levels are slightly more elevated. Drink it over the next 20+ years." |
Description:
This offer on the 2010 Chateau Canon la Gaffeliere is an outstanding opportunity to grab one of the top wines of the vintage!!!
The main reasons are obvious:
- Rated 96 WS / 95 RP.
- from the excellent 2010 vintageâ¦
- Most importantly #2 Wine of the Year in the WS TOP 100 Wines of 2013!!!
"Since he took charge at Canon-La Gaffeliere in 1985, Stephan von Neipperg, of German nobility yet a rebel in Bordeaux, has elevated quality by focusing on terroir and thinking outside the box. He was one of the first to hire consultant Stephane Derenoncourt. Grapes for this wine, a blend of 55 percent Merlot, 35 percent Cabernet Franc and 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, are destemmed and go mostly uncrushed into oak vats, triggering a slow initial fermentation. The wine aged in barrel for 17 months. 4,500 cases made.
Best from 2016 through 2035" - Wine Spectator
The best part: This wine is already starting to enter its prime drinking window now!
When the Wine Spectator Top 100 List comes out each year, the top 10 wines usually fly. However, every so often, opportunity calls and additional quantity of the wines appear on the market at a later date. This is one of those opportunities!!
