Description:
91-point Sancerre at a house-wine price!
The Wine Spectator just rated this 91 Points ... wait until you taste it!
This was just featured on the front page of Winespectator.com in a story called "17 Summertime Whites from the Loire". Our phones started ringing off the hook as this was one of the top rated wines on the list. Not to mention ... it's an incredible price ... for a Sancerre!!!
You donât need us to tell you how satisfying good Sancerre can be all year round-- but especially in summer. Nothing beats the lip-smacking fruit, mouth-coating minerality, and lingering acidity for refreshment and food compatibility. The down side is that in many cases, a good Sancerre runs well north of $20 per bottle-- affordable, but out of the range of every-night enjoyment.
That all changes now with the Karine Lauverjat 2016 Sancerre. Grown on the same Kimmeridgian clay soils that are featured in Chablis, this Loire Valley white has more in common with the dry, crispy, mineral-driven whites of northern Burgundy than it does with other Sauvignon Blancs in the more nearby districts of Anjou and Touraine.
The husband-and-wife team of Christian and Karine Lauverjat farm sustainably, use minimal chemical intervention in vinification, and employ a clay filtration system that enables their wines to maintain their texture and character.
Their wines are among the best values to be had from the Loire-- and this one is a tremendous bargain. Sancerre of this quality just donât show up everyday at this price.
"The Lauverjat family has been growing grapes in Sancerre for generations in the tiny village of Sury-en-Vaux. Husband-and-wife team Christian and Karine have 12-hectares of vines in Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume. They have made improvements over the years, including a transition to sustainable viticulture. They favor working the soil and use a seaweed to combat disease, reducing chemical intervention. They grow grass in the rows to prevent erosion. In the cellar the whites are made in thermo-regulated tanks and the reds are made in large wooden conical tanks. Several years ago, they invested in a new clay filtration system that allows them to very gently filter the wines without stripping them of their character. The wines from Lauverjat undoubtedly represent some of the best values to be had from the appellation." - Importer
