"This delightful dry white wine is meant to be drunk young, cool and fresh. It delivers striking scents of lime and lemon rind, whiffs of honeydew and even a hint of seashells. And no taste of oak to be found, just âpure playâ dry white. If thereâs a better dry white wine for the (little) money, I havenât tasted it. Iâve tasted a good many dry whites at twice this price that arenât even half as good. This wine could easily become your âhouse whiteâ- itâs that good." |
Description:
Chateau Haut Rian is owned since 1988 by Michel Dietrich, who hails from Kaysersberg in Alsace, where he grew up in a winemaking family. He has degrees in viticulture and oenology from the College of Beaune and the University of Bordeaux. Also on his resume is a six year stint as manager and head winemaker at Chateau Remy in Australia. Michelâs wife, Isabelle, hails from the Montagne de Reims area of Champagne, also from a winemaking family.
Chateau Haut Rian is located southeast (18 miles) of the city of Bordeaux in the tiny village of Rions. The property is eighty hectares, encompassing parts of the Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux and Entre-Deux-Mers, bordering the village of Cadillac and near the Garonne River, âwhere the vines can see the water but wonât get their feet wetâ. The climate here is warmer than maritime Medoc but also drier. All of the vineyards are on gentle slopes facing South and Southeast, the topsoil consists of loose pebbles over limestone.
The wines are vegan, no animal derivatives are ever used." -Importer
