93 Pts Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Coming from a 60-year-old vineyard in Greenock, the 2009 Reiver Shiraz was matured for 14 months in oak hogsheads, 70% new and 90% French. It reveals a deep garnet-purple color and an intensely perfumed nose of black cherries, blackberries, mulberries, potpourri and anise over baking spices and violets. Full bodied and voluptuous in the mouth, it is elegantly structured with a medium level of velvety tannins and refreshing acidity, finishing long with plenty of spice layers. Approachable now, it should develop further and cellar to 2019+.

Description:

"“Reivers” were the raiders of the Anglo-Scot borders. Throughout the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries the border country was ravaged by lawless Reiver families in a vicious cycle of raid, reprisal and blood feud. Their allegiance was first to their family, not the crown. The reference is to the Italian “invasion” of Barosso with this wine Mitolo’s only Barosso.

In a short period of time Mitolo has become recognized as one of the finest producers in McLaren Vale. Mitolo is a family owned business, started by and led by the founder and owner Frank Mitolo’s vision to create a range of wines of individuality, integrity and utmost quality. Whether it is in the vineyard, or in the winery, or the work of the different coopers who source and shape the diverse barrels which are used at Mitolo, each wine is nurtured and developed with a zealous passion that spares no effort to ensure that the best of everything is brought together to make wines of purity, elegance and power." - Importer
