91 Pts Luis Gutierrez - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
"Since 2014, they fixed the source for their Monastrell, and the 2015 Depaula comes from three old ungrafted vineyards outside the Jumilla appellation; the vineyards are at a higher altitude (850-915 meters) on very chalky soils, in search of freshness and acidity. One of the plots, the one with younger vines, was not destemmed. It fermented in an oak vat with natural yeasts where it matured for some six months until bottling. This has an unusual profile of the Monastrell from the region; it has structure, freshness and acidity, with clean flavors and aromas. The wine has a different profile compared with the 2012 and 2013, more refined, more elegant while keeping the notes of aromatic herbs and balsamic aromas. Fresh and easy to drink, while keeping the Mediterranean character, and incredibly priced. It is much better than most of the wines that wear the Jumilla back label. Delicious. 24,000 bottles produced." |
