92 Pts Antonio Galloni - Vinous |
"The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Correlation is rich, round and expressive for the year. Mocha, plums, smoke, licorice and black cherries meld together in a rich, supple wine with tons of early appeal. Smoke, licorice and tobacco add complexity on the finish. The style is dark and brooding, but with notable intensity. The 2011 could use another year or two to fully come together, but it is impressive nonetheless. Vineyard 7&8's contract with Spring Mountain Vineyards has expired, so the Correlation is made from fruit sourced from other neighboring estates in the district, the estate's own younger vines and a dollop of fruit from Missouri Hopper." |
91 Pts Robert Parker - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
"The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Correlation displays a clean, pure nose of camphor, crème de cassis and licorice followed by an opulent, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and a long finish. Clearly showing significantly better than when I first tasted it, it should continue to evolve for another 10-12+ years." |
Description:
Luc Morlet came to America by way of Champagne, where his family continues to make wine today. It's clear that Luc thoroughly enjoys a challenge in life, as almost every stop where he's worked, he has had to fill some big shoes. It started at Newton, where he had to replace John Kongsgaard, the Napa legend who helped put Newton on the map. Next, he took over at one of Sonoma's greatest estates, Peter Michael, and went on to produce one outstanding wine after another for this legendary winery. Along the way he took over at Staglin Family, and started his own namesake label. Needless to say, Luc loves a challenge, and has clearly risen to the challenge at every turn!
It all starts in the Vineyards ...
From a 100 point winemaker to a 100 point vineyard management team, Pete Richmond and his company Silverado Farming oversee these impeccably maintained vineyards. Pete and his team have plenty of experience working with Napa's elite winemakers, like Philippe Melka at Lail, and with Thomas Brown at Round Pond Estate. Even before he went out on his own, he picked up amazing experience at Cardinale and Lokoya. These guys know how to make amazing fruit, and it's no surprise this is one stunning bottle of wine!
Spring Mountain is one of the great areas of Napa Valley, and house top estates like Cain, Pride, Paloma and Philip Togni, all of whom have continuously made wine at the highest level of Napa Valley.
