91-93 Pts Robert Parker - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
"The brilliant 2011 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Rasteau Vieilles Vignes has an opaque purple color as well as notes of ink, graphite, chocolate fudge, blackberries and kirsch. It is full-bodied, dense and powerful on the palate. Drink it over the next decade." |
92+ Pts Jeb Dunnuck - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
"Even more impressive is the 2011 Rasteau Vieilles Vignes. Comprised of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah - aged all in concrete - that was harvest late in September, it's inky purple color is followed by a dense, serious bouquet of black fruits, plum, new leather and graphite. This full-bodied, structured and fresh effort is one of the more serious Rasteaus in the vintage. Drink it over the coming 8-9 years. Drink 2014-2022." |
Description:
"The first hectare of the estate was planted in 1875. Their cellar built in 1926, and was the first private cellar of Rasteau. The real start in vine growing was in 1930, when Maurice Leyraud (the grandfather of Jean Pierreâs wife) decided to plant Grenache and Carignan, instead of cereals and olive trees. In 1989, Jean Pierre started to work in the estate at 24 years of age, and in 1999 he took over management of the entire estate. At that time, he asked a dear old friend of his, Philippe Cambie to help him with his wine business."
"Today, Jean Pierre is running a 20 Ha estate and annually produces nearly 200 Hl in Cotes-du-Rhone and 500 Hl in Rasteau. The estate is composed mostly of Grenache, Carignan, Syrah, Cinsault and MourveÌdre, on clay and limestone soil. Harvest is 100% destemmed and vinification takes place in concrete tanks and old French Oak barrels." -Importer
