"The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino offers up freshly cut flowers, black cherries, minerals, new leather and menthol in a polished, totally vibrant style that is highly appealing. Over time, the wine's inner sweetness emerges, hinting at what is in store over the coming years. Still quite firm, the estate's Brunello will need a few years in the cellar. It will appeal most to readers who like firm, ageworthy wines. This finish impresses for its focus and overall purity. Smoke, underbrush, tar and a host of other aromas and flavors add complexity on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026." (05/11) |
91+ Pts Stephen Tanzer - Vinous Media |
"Good full medium red. Red berries, rose petal, lavender and a whiff of gingerbread on the nose. Juicy, sweet and savory, with lovely intensity and grip. Harmonious acidity energizes the mid-palate and gives definition and cut to the wine's dark berry and spice flavors. Not a silky style but penetrating, firmly tannic, long and built to age. Broad on the back but a bit youthfully tough today and in need of at least several years of cellaring." (08/11) |
91 Pts James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com |
"Plenty of dried flowers, with plums and ripe strawberries on the nose. Full body, with chewy tannins and lots of vanilla. It turns a little dry but should come out right with three to four years of bottle age." (01/11) |
90 Pts Wine Enthusiast |
"This classic Brunello is slightly more closed aromatically and subdued at first, but opens to deep layers of berry fruit and exotic spice as the wine stays in the glass. Elegant flavors of almond and cassis appear as pretty accents on the long fade. -ML" (04/11) |
90 Pts Wine Spectator |
"There's a beam of cherry in this tightly constructed red that quickly gets lost in the dusty, even astringent tannins. Fresh and elegant, just on the dry side, finishing long with mineral and tobacco. Best from 2014 through 2022. 500 cases imported. -BS" (02/13) |
Description:
Wine:
"A classic and elegant Brunello that is fragrant and fruity on the nose and well-structured on the palate, with a long elegant finish. Pairs well with roasted meat dishes and robust Tuscan recipes." - Importer
Vinification and Aging:
"Fermentation in steel tanks lasting 11 to 12 days. Pumping over the cap is done for the first 2 days. In a mix of Allier and Slavonian casks for 39 months. It becomes an official Brunello after 5 years, which includes the 6 months of rest in bottle." - Importer
