96 Pts James Suckling - Jamessuckling.com

#2 James Suckling Wines of the Year 2013
"This shows beautiful aromas of flowers, raspberries and blackberries that follow through to a full body with ultra silky tannins and a long, long finish. It lasts for minutes. Best in 2018 or later." (11/13)

95 Pts Wine Enthusiast

Cellar Selection
"A great wine, packed with black currant fruits, sweet tannins and beautiful acidity. Made by the team at Leoville las Cases, this wine reveals an elegant, restrained structure, ripe and delicious fruit and a darker, tighter texture for aging. - RV" (05/13)

93 Pts Wine Spectator

"This has a lush edge, with seamlessly layered blueberry, blackberry and boysenberry fruit, along with a racy graphite edge and a back end of coffee and bittersweet ganache notes. A solid tug of iron is buried on the finish. Best from 2015 through 2030. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. -JM" (2013)

90 Pts Stephen Tanzer - Vinous Media

"Deep, bright red. Inviting aromas of black cherry and sweet spices lifted by a floral nuance. Supple and fine-grained; remarkably smooth and plush for a young Clos du Marquis, with black cherry and dark berry flavors conveying a restrained sweetness and an impression of elegance. Plenty of stuffing here for mid-term aging but seamless enough to give immediate pleasure." (08/13)

90 Pts Robert Parker - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"With the alcohol hitting 13.6% in a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, this wine displays plenty of sweet kirsch, licorice and black currant fruit in a classy, seductive style, with medium to full body, soft but abundant tannins and a long finish. It does indeed possess the elegance and finesse of its bigger sibling, Leoville Las Cases. Drink it over the next 10-15 years."

"Clos de Marquis is no longer a second wine, but rather one from a separate vineyard in the holdings of Leoville Las Cases. It should be thought of as a different entity, although the same winemaking team and philosophy are at play." (02/13)

Description:

"Rich, round and polished. Easy and fun and really attractive, even if not for the long term. Very fine tannins - the most glamorous wine from this stable. Drink from 2018 to 2030." (07/11) - 17 out of 20 Points, Jancis Robinson, Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages.

Producer:
"Created in 1902, the Clos du Marquis has its origins in the "Petit Clos" adjacent to the Chateau de Leoville, home of the Marquis de Las Cases. The Clos du Marquis comes from the great terroirs of the Saint-Julien appellation that were not part of the former Leoville estate."

"These terroirs are located further west and surrounded by prestigious Crus Classes (Classified Growths) including Second Growths from the Saint- Julien and Pauillac appellations: Leoville Poyferre, Leoville Barton and Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. The Clos du Marquis thus displays typical Saint-Julien characteristics: structure, complexity, balance, distinction and great ageing potential." - Winery
