"The 2007 El Rincon is a blend of 95% Syrah and 5% Garnacha from the Aldea del Fresno and El Rincon vineyards. It has an ebullient bouquet of macerated dark cherries, soy and creme de cassis that carry the oak extremely well. The palate is medium-bodied with silky smooth tannins. It is very refined and focused with a lilting, fresh finish of strawberry and red cherries. Drink now-2018." |
91 Pts Jeb Dunnuck - The Rhone Report |
"A blend of 95% Syrah and 5% Garnacha, the 2007 El Rincon spent 10 months in French oak prior to bottling. It delivers a deep, rich array of cedar-laced blackberries, spice-box, mint, and serious minerality along with a full-bodied, rich, yet beautifully focused and defined mouth feel. Still youthful and fresh, with notable tannin still present on the finish, it can be enjoyed over the coming decade." (03/13) |
Description:
"This wine is produced from a blend of Syrah and Garnacha from the El Rincon estate vineyard in the Aldea del Freso region of the DO Vinos de Madrid. The family strives to capture the unique terroir in the bottle of each wine they make, and El Rincon is no exception. Here, the vines are grown in decomposed granite, which they believe lends an unmistakable elegance and precision to the final wine."
"El Rincon is deep ruby-red in color, and marked by expressive notes of ripe plums, violets, spice and a hint of caramel. On the palate, it shows outstanding balance and complexity with plenty of ripe fruit, backed up with firm but soft tannins. Pair this wine with roast pork tenderloin smothered in stewed apricots or lamb casseroles." -Importer
Winery:
"Marques de Grinon wines are sourced from the prized Dominio de Valdepusa vineyard in Castilla-La Mancha. Valdepusa stands apart from the rest of the region, as its 1068-foot elevation is one of the highest in Spain, and its top layer of soil is similar to Burgundy's - it is almost pure limestone."
"Dominio de Valdepusa has been in the noble family of Carlos Falco Fernandez de Cordova, the Marquis of Grinon, since 1292. Referred to as the father of Spanish wine, Falco pioneered the modernization of vine growing and winemaking in Spain. Falco graduated from the University of California Davis with a degree in viticulture and oenology in 1964. He returned home and began making wine, all the while pushing the boundaries of winemaking as set by Francoist Spain. In 1974, he introduced the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varieties as well as drip irrigation and night harvesting." -Importer
