95 Pts James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion

"Dense, opaque colour; the bouquet and palate live up to the colour, but it is not over-extracted, and has very good balance between its abundant black fruits, oak and tannins; there is a very attractive earthy/savoury character to the palate that positively adds to the wine. Drink by 2030." (09/11)

94 Pts Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Very deep purple-black colored, the 2009 Autograph Shiraz is intensely scented of creme de cassis, black cherry preserves and dried plums with hints of fruit cake, baking spice, cedar and licorice. Full, rich and voluptuous in the mouth, it has a medium-high level of acid injecting just enough freshness with medium-firm grainy tannins to lend texture, finishing long and layered. Drink it 2013 to 2024+." (02/12)

90 Pts Wine Spectator

"Generous, focused and appealing for its savory herb and anise notes around a lean core of blackberry and spice. This has intensity and deftness, with power. Drink now through 2019. 1,000 cases made. -HS" (04/13)

Description:

Producer:
"Czech immigrant Karl Cimicky founded Karlsburg Winery in 1973 near the southern Barossa town of Lyndoch. In the early 90's, Karl's son Charles began to take a keen interest in winemaking and the 'good' wines started turning into awesome wines. In addition to top of the line fermenters and barrels, Cimicky also has an estate bottling and labeling line, something of a rarity in Australia, allowing him to personally control all facets of production. Charles Cimicky produces rich, voluptuous, generous wines with superb balance from 8 year-old Petite Syrah vines, 30 up to 80 year-old Shiraz vines and 80+ year-old Grenache vines. Apart from minor drip irrigation in January and February when needed, the vines are dry grown, cover-cropped and organically fertilized. Now in his late forties Charles Cimicky is one of the most quality-driven, meticulous winemakers in South Australia. " - Importer
