92 Pts Jeb Dunnuck - The Rhone Report

"Enjoyed over dinner and continuing to drink brilliantly and show the class of the producer, the 2008 Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes is loaded with sweet kirsch and blackberry liqueur, roasted meats, spice-box, and licorice-driven aromatics, medium to full-bodied, and a seamless, upfront, and yet focused and pure texture. It is a beauty that will continue to drink well through 2018. Do not let the vintage scare you away from this wine and while it won’t be incredibly long lived, it delivers loads of pleasure in an ‘oh so drinkable’ package." (10/12)

90 Pts Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media

"Full red. Muskier and more perfumed than the previous wine, displaying potent red and dark berry scents and a hint of anise. Spicy and broad, with sweet black raspberry and cherry flavors and a firm mineral spine. Finishes with very good clarity and persistent spice and floral nuances. " (03/11)

WINEMAKER
Philippe Cambie

"The prestigious Clos Saint Jean is run by the fourth generation of the Tacussel/Maurel family - Vincent and Pascal Maurel - under the tutelage of renown oenologist Philippe Cambie.

Clos Saint-Jean is considered by critics, sommeliers and consumers alike to be among the top properties of the Southern Rhone. Robert Parker comments, “The tasting of the five 2007 cuvees must rank among the greatest single tasting in the southern Rhone I have ever done in 30+ years of wine tasting. Last year I sensed something special was happening, and the bottled 2007s confirm that something rare had occurred in the vineyards and cellars of Clos Saint-Jean.” The estate now boasts four 100 point wines, sourced from their extraordinary old vine plots, including choice parcels in the famed La Crau district of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

The property makes one white and four red cuvees all using the same winemaking philosophy, just from different blends from different parcels. Grenache in aged in tank only while Syrah and Mourvedre are aged in one- and two-year-old demi-muids, and occasionally, smaller barrels." - Importer

This wine was also rated 89 points by the Wine Advocate.
