92-95 Pts Jay Miller - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate |
"The 2009 Alonso del Yerro, tasted from a barrel sample, is purple/black in color with outstanding density and richness. It is a promising effort from what looks to be a great Tempranillo vintage in Ribera del Duero. Derenoncourt finds it reminiscent of the 2004." |
Description:
"The diversity of soils, placed over 800m of altitude and all of them very chalky from the red clay typical of Ribera to the gravel sands, results in the complexity and style of the Alonso del Yerro. Deep red color. Powerful nose with ripe fresh fruit, spices and liquorice. The mouth, delicate and sweet-toothed, elegantly expresses the floral and liquoriced aromas of the Tempranillo. Fresh fruit, with a highly roasted touch thanks to the barrel. Silky tannins and a long persistence in mouth." -Winery
VINTAGE:
"A typical vintage from the Ribera. Our cold winter, dry spring, and a very warm and dry summer allowed a healthy and very little interfering viticulture. From September onwards, the cold temperatures during the night favored the grape's maturity to the tannic and aromatic level. A great vintage, mature and complete, which allowed the grape to express the qualities of our 'terroir'." -Winery
