"Aromas of blueberries and bacon and hints of wet earth. Full body, with velvety and round tannins and a juicy finish. Wonderful finish of fruit and meat. Opulent and soft. Better in 2014. Best Fanti since 2001." (01/12) |
Description:
WINE:
"Deep ruby red, tending to garnet with bright orange nuances. Complex with an intense smell of ripe fruit, among which stands out the cherry, wild berries, tobacco and rhubarb. A smell of sweets spices and vanilla complete the olfactory profile. A soft and enveloping entrance with a fresh and persistent ending. A long aftertaste with an excellent taste-olfactory correspondence." -Importer
WINERY:
"The area of vineyards has been developed in the amphitheatre of the south facing hills of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, at 350-430m asl, a part of which are to be found quite near the wonderful Roman Basilica of Sant'Antimo, and the rest in the hill side slopes from Castelnuovo dell'Abate toward Orcia. The soil is limy with stratified formation of 'galestro' (marls). The climate is extremely particular and at one and the same time favours robust and elegant wines because of the strong exposure to the sun during the day thanks to the configuration of the hills where the vineyards are located, with a good thermal drop at night due to the fresh winds coming from nearby Mount Amiata." -Importer
This wine was also rated 93 points by the Wine Enthusiast, 91 points by the Wine Spectator, 90 points by the Wine Advocate, 90+ points in Decanter Magazine, 88 points in the International Wine Cellar, and 14.5 points in Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages.
