"A sleeper of the vintage, the 2010 Cotes du Rhone, which includes Grenache and Syrah in the blend, possesses surprisingly full body as well as concentrated, sweet blackberry and kirsch notes intermixed with hints of spring flowers, pepper and earth. Fruity, hedonistic, complex and opulent, it can be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years." |
Description:
"The vineyards are an assembly of several parcels in and around the village of Rasteau, with an average yield of 45 hl/ha. They practice organic farming techniques. The age of vines is 35-40 years old. Philippe Cambie is the consulting winemaker and the wine is aged in cuve beton (concrete)." -Importer
WINERY:
"Georges Perrot began bottling his own wines in 2003. He rents some cellar space from Andre Romero of Domaine La Soumade. Prior to 2003, Georges' family sold all their fruit to a big negociant. Georges hired Philippe Cambie to consult on his project, which is already receiving great accolades. All of Georges' wines come from vineyards planted in Rasteau. His Cotes du Rhone Rouge is made from younger vines and his very best, oldest vines he saves for the Rasteau and La Fontaine. All the Grenache is raised in cement and oak is only used for the Syrah and Mourvedre."
"The AOC Rasteau has been planted with vines for more than 2000 years. In 1966 wines from Rasteau could be called Cotes du Rhone Village Rasteau. In 2010 in became its own AOC. The appellation Rasteau includes only red wines. Producers who before 2010 made rose or white wines with the name Cotes du Rhone Villages Rasteau must now name such wines Cotes du Rhone Village or Cotes du Rhone. The allowed grape varieties are divided in 3 levels of importance. Grenache must count for at least 50% of what the producer has planted in his vineyard. Syrah and Mourvedre must together count for at least 20% of what is planted and the maximum must not exceed 50%." -Importer
