92 Pts Stephen Tanzer - Vinous Media

"Good pale yellow. Very pure, laid-back aromas of citrus peel and crushed stone, with hints of flint and smoke. Dense and ripe, with an impression of sucrosite buffered by penetrating citrus and grapefruit flavors and a firm spine of acids and minerals. This very rich, gripping wine dusts the palate with lemon zest and crushed stone on the very long, perfumed finish. A superb and complete 2009, and a stunningly good village wine. There's almost no topsoil over the limestone here, notes Picq. This may be even better than the 2008 version." 92 points - Stephen Tanzer - International Wine Cellar

"The 2009 Chablis Dessus la Carriere is beautifully layered and refined for the vintage. It shows gorgeous clarity and definition, not to mention terrific overall balance. Juicy apricots linger on the generous, radiant finish. This is one of the more energetic, focused 2009s at this address. The high presence of rocks in the soil contributes to the wine’s freshness. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015."

"Didier Picq's vineyards are all located in the Chichee, which is just a few kilometers outside Chablis. Picq is among the growers who use stainless steel exclusively. The wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts, which is not as common in Chablis as it is in other parts of Burgundy. The wines undergo full malolactic fermentation and are bottled on the late side. The house style is one that emphasizes a bold, direct expression of fruit with tonalities that tend towards peach and apricot rather than the brighter, citrus-infused end of the spectrum. The wines can be enjoyed pretty much upon release. I tasted all of the 2010s from tank and the 2009s from bottle. As is the case throughout Chablis, the 2009s here are rich and low in acidity (in relative terms) while the 2010s are decidedly cooler and focused. Picq plans to bottle his 2010s in January/February 2012." 91 points - Antonio Galloni - Wine Advocate

"A hint of exotic fruit combines with mineral reduction notes and plenty of Chablis character that continues onto the solidly rich and dense flavors brimming with dry extract and a fine minerality on the lingering finish. Fine quality for its level. (Rated an 'Outstanding Top Value')" 88-90 points - Allen Meadows - Burghound

WINE:
"Dessus la Carriere is made from two lieux-dits: 33 year-old vines on west-facing Semon and 30 year-old vines at Paradis which faces due south. The two sites share a very unusual sub-soil of solid limestone rock; they sit above an abandoned limestone quarry. The age of the vines and the terroir of uneroded rock make for a bracing, textbook expression of minerality. Aging in stainless steel tanks allows this to come through with great purity and transparency." -Importer

WINERY:
"The Domaine of Gilbert Picq et Ses Fils is one of the lovely, small, up-and-coming producers that dot the Chablisienne landscape. Located in the village of Chichée, just to the southeast of Chablis proper, the Picq family has exploited its small parcels of vines for several generations, with father Gilbert now having fully retired and handed over the reigns to his two sons, Didier and Pascal, and his daughter Marilyn Picq. Pascal is in charge of the vineyards for the family, while Didier mans the cellars and makes the wines, with both brothers more than content to leave the office side of the business to Marilyn. The Picq style of Chablis is very classic, with the inimitable expression of minerality that the chardonnay only picks up in these rolling hillside vineyards of the Yonne Valley, coupled to racy acidity and fine depth that comes with low yields, meticulous winemaking and fine parcels of vines." -Importer
