92 Pts Josh Raynolds - Vinous Media

"Deep ruby. Seductively perfumed nose displays a suave bouquet of strawberry, cherry, fresh rose and minerals; smells like a sexy pinot noir. Supple red berry preserve flavors are deep but strikingly fresh, with zesty minerality adding lift to the finish. A compellingly pure, sweet midweight that's utterly delicious today." 92 Points - Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar

"Revealing a deep ruby color and a broad, full-bodied, dense, complete style, the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is forward for a 2005. It should age effortlessly for 12-15 years given its additional depth and richness." 90 Points - Robert Parker - Wine Advocate

"Has the chewy structure of the vintage, with red and black currant, fig and loam notes. The solid, gravelly texture on the finish allows notes of aged tobacco and dark olive to emerge. Drink now through 2023. 75 cases imported." 90 Points - Wine Spectator

WINE:
"The vineyard is stony - clayey and chalky -spread with big rolled pebbles - some sandy plots. Planted with 60% Grenache - 30% Mourvèdre - 10% Syrah. Average age of the vines, 70 years old. Some plots are over a hundred years old. The grapes are picked the last week of the harvest. The best ones are kept for the Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A second sorting is done on the spot in the steel harvesting-bin." -Winemaker

ESTATE:
"The Family MAYARD, a Chateauneuf-du-Pape native, already owned a property at the time of Napoléon III. In 1976, when Jean-Luc MAYARD, the son, takes the succession "Domaine Roger MAYARD" becomes "Domaine Roger MAYARD & Fils". When his father Roger MAYARD retires, the "Domaine" is then called : "Domaine Mayard Jean-Luc". In 1990 the Domaine becomes "Domaine du Galet des Pape". It symbolises the prestigious synthesis of our vineyard, spread with big rolled pebbles."

"The "Domaine du Galet des Papes" lies on the slopes of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, planted of vines since more than one millennium. Our vineyard extends on 13ha including 12ha for red wine and one for the white one. The average age of our vineyard is 50 years old. Some plots are even over hundred years old." -Winery
