Description:

2007 MONTEVIEJO LINDAFLOR MALBEC:
"Saturated bright ruby. Crushed blackberry and boysenberry fruit aromas are complicated by menthol and rocky minerality. Broad, large-scaled and full, with lovely perfume to its urgent black cherry and dark berry flavors. Firm acids and strong minerality accentuate the wine's definition and grip. Finishes with toothdusting, fine tannins and terrific persistence. This impressively rich, deep, pliant wine is a noble expression of malbec." -93 points- Stephen Tanzer- International Wine Cellar

"Monteviejo's 2007 Lindaflor is 100% Malbec. A glass-coating opaque purple, it displays an aromatic array of toasty new oak, pencil lead, tar, violets, and black cherry. This leads to a full-bodied, dense, tannic behemoth that has loads of succulent fruit, good balance, and a lengthy finish. It will require another 5-7 years of cellaring to show its full potential." -92+ Points- Jay Miller- Wine Advocate

WINERY:
"Bodega Monteviejo is owned and operated by Chateau Le Gay, of Pomerol. The wines made at this very special property in Argentina are treated with the same dedication and care as those produced back home in Bordeaux. The vineyards, over 100 hectares, are located in the commune of Tunuyan, just 80km south of the city of Mendoza. The goal here is to create wines that can compete with the world's best. Yields are kept low and the vineyard is vertically trained, with vines planted at a density of 5,500 vines per hectare. This configuration corresponds to the region's traditional method of planting old vine Malbec at 1.8m x 1m spacing...The goal here is nothing less than to create some of the world's best wines. This winery was created by Catherine Pere-Verge and is one of the most ambitious Argentinean project of late. Her friend Michel Rolland is in charge of winemaking with Marcelo Peleritti, the manager of the winery." -Importer

2006 I GIUSTI & ZANZA DULCAMARA:
"Beautiful aromas of blueberry, flowers and sandalwood follow through to a full body, with silky, refined tannins and a delicate aftertaste of sweet berry and light vanilla. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best after 2011. 750 cases made." -92 points Wine Spectator

WINE:
"Deeply intense purple color. Nose of a classic Cabernet with cherries and currant. Big wine with lots of up front tannins, fruit is soft and subtle. It shows wonderful development potential for long term aging." -Winery

WINERY:
"In 1995 we started to restore an old Estate called 'Scopicci' situated in the north of Tuscany. In the first time we renewed the vineyards under the supervision of our enologist agronomist Dr. Stefano Chioccioli. To obtain a great quality of the grapes the new vineyards are designed to perform a low production, our target is to produce less than 1 kg of grapes per plant. The total Estate extension is of 35 hectares circa and in this moment we led 15 hectares of red grapes vineyard." -Winery

2007 Cousino Macul Antiguas Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon:
"The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Antiguas Reserva remains one of the finest Cabernet values anywhere (the price has remained unchanged for years). Fragrant black currants and blackberry aromas promise complexity with several years of additional bottle age. Nicely structured on the palate, this elegant, Bordeaux-like Cabernet will evolve for a minimum of five years and drink well through 2025."

"If there is anyone delivering more bang-for-the buck than Arturo Cousino and his namesake winery Cousino-Macul, I’d like to know about it. One of the first wineries from Chile to make a break-through in the USA market, over the years Cousino has continued to fine-tune his portfolio and the wines are better today than they have ever been. On my recent trip to Chile, I attended a twelve vintage vertical of the Cabernet Sauvignon Antiguas Reserva going back to 1968. The 1968 was right at its peak as was the splendid 1978, the first vintage imported to the USA. There is no reason to think that the current and other recent vintages won’t age as gracefully. If I were a young collector just starting a cellar, this would be an ideal wine to lay down." -90+ Points - Jay Miller - Wine Advocate

WINEMAKING:
"Harvested when physiologically ripe, when the tannins are ripe and smooth, the process started with cold maceration to extract the aromas. For complexity, Chilean yeast and prise de mousse were used for fermentation, and the must was risen 3 to 4 times a day. Post-fermentation skin maceration was added for more dimensions. Once pressed, the wine was transferred to small French oak barrels with different cooperages. Finally, the wine was clarified with egg white and a light filtration was applied before bottling." -Winemaker
