Description:
2007 Chateau Climens Sauternes:
"Tasted twice at UGC tastings, it was actually under blind conditions that the Climens 2007 re-confirmed its status as the best Sauternes of the vintage. It retains an ethereal bouquet of honey, white peach, apricot and orange-blossom with ethereal purity and joie de vivre. The palate is medium-bodied with exquisite balance and essence of mineralite. It balances on tiptoe with perfect acidity that effortlessly counterpoises those layers of rich honeyed fruit; the finish taut, vibrant and with a sense of place. This is outstanding in every way. Perfect? I would not bet against it deserving that loaded adjective one day in the future. Drink 2015-2050." -99 points- Neal Martin- Wine Advocate
"A big, rich wine, showing its gorgeous fruit easily. But with a core of dryness, the ripest apricots touched by caramel, it should age well over many years. There is intense power here, still hidden by the youth of the wine, but with final concentration." -98 points Wine Enthusiast
"Bright gold. Captivating, complex nose offers fresh apricot, peach and honey, lifted by an intoxicating spicy, floral scent. Very intensely flavored and precise, with superb lift and purity to the rich, silky flavors of stone fruits, honey and peppermint. As opulent and creamy as this is, it's extremely young today, conveying an impression of oomph and power. Finishes broad and very long, with superb energy. This will probably need a good 12 to 15 years to approach maturity and should be long-lived." -94 points- Stephen Tanzer- International Wine Cellar
"This delivers loads of citrus aromas, along with dried apricot and honey on the nose, as well as toffee. Full-bodied, with a medium sweetness, spicy, fruity flavors and a long, racy, spicy finish. There's toffee and caramel as well. Hard not to drink now. Best after 2014." -93 points Wine Spectator

VINEYARDS:
"The vineyards are located at the summit of the Barsac appellation, extending over 30 hectares around the chateau. The red soils are spotted with small stones which create a small bed of sandy clay and ferrunginous soil, resting on a bedrock of limestone, giving great natural drainage in the vineyards. The average age of the vines is 35 years old." "Planted solely with Semillon, Chateau Climens is one of the rare cru level wines with a single varietal. The wine is fermented in small lots in French oak barriques that are 35-45% new. The wine is aged for 20 to 24 months." -Winery
2007 Vina De Andres Romeo:
"The 2007 La Vina de Andres Romeo is a saturated purple color with an alluring aromatic array of smoke, mineral, lavender, Asian spices, leather, black cherry, and blackberry. This leads to a dense, mouth-filling, rich, plush offering that is structured for the long haul. This beautifully balanced wine will profit from a minimum of 6-8 years of cellaring and will be at its best from 2016 to 2037. Patience is required!"- 95 Points - Jay Miller - The Wine Advocate
"A plush, modern texture carries alluring cassis, pomegranate, cocoa and sandalwood flavors that layer and build through the finish. Not massive, but focused and balanced, with great drive. Drink now through 2017. 25 cases imported." - 93 Points - Wine Spectator
WINE:
"Benjamin Romeo has been the winemaker at Artadi since its founding in 1985. He was born in the heart of Rioja in the village of San Vicente de la Sonsierra in 1964. The son of a grape grower, his entire life has been spent in a relationship with the vineyards and wine. He studied Enology at the University of Madrid."
"In 1995 Benjamin bought an old 14th century winery cave under the fortress of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. For centuries the wine was made at the winery in the village below and then carried in goatskins to the caves. Because each goatskin varied in capacity, there was a person stationed in this room at the entrance to the aging cave whose sole function was to count and weigh each skin as it came into that particular cave. When the wine was ready for sale, the process was reversed and the skins were counted and weighed on their way out. That room where the counting and inventory took place is called the Contador."
"Seven centuries later, Benjamin Romeo is using these same caves to store and age his wines in near perfect conditions, thus respecting old traditions while utilizing ever-evolving modern wine technology. Grapes are sourced from very old vines from a small old hillside vineyard known by the locals as âcorrosâ. The elevation of these plots is from 1,250-1,500 ft. The soil is calcareous clay, poor in organic matter. The climate is Continental." - Importer
