Description:

2006 Neyers Syrah Cuvee D'honneur:
"Deep ruby-red. Spicy aromas of black raspberry, bacon fat and white pepper. Suppler, sweeter and fruitier than the Hudson bottling, with raspberry and spice flavors joined by dark chocolate on the back. Finishes with terrific spicy persistence and considerable power." -92 points- Stephen Tanzer- International Wine Cellar

"The 2006 Syrah Cuvee d'Honneur is a full-bodied, concentrated Syrah with peppery blackberry and cassis notes, more lard and bacon fat, with a hint of charcoal and smoke. The wine is opulent, fleshy, and ideal for drinking over the next 5-8 years."

"One would think Bruce Neyers has little time. After all, he is the full-time (or over-time) national sales representative for Kermit Lynch importing company. Yet Neyers also has an impressive portfolio of wines, some of which come from his own estate vineyards tucked away in the Conn Valley. His winemaker is none other than Turley Cellars' highly respected Ehren Jordan. I thought this was the strongest line-up of wines Neyers has yet produced, although last year the tastings were nearly as good, so he seems to be on a roll." -91 points Robert Parker

WINE:
"We've been producing a separate bottling of Syrah labeled as Cuvee d'Honneur since the 2000 vintage, and if you ever visit us at our Sage Canyon winemaking facility, you'll see that 50% of our production space is given over to the equipment necessary to produce old world-style Syrah. We strive to produce Syrah that is classic, what we've come to know and love from the Northern Rhone appellations of Cornas, Cote-Rotie and Hermitage. We named this wine 'Cuvee d'Honneur' in recognition of the extraordinary support we've received from a trio of prominent French vintners; Thierry Allemande, Auguste Clape and Noel Verset. Our thanks continue to this day. 246 cases produced" -Winery

WINERY:
"Begun in 1992 by Bruce and Barbara Neyers, Neyers Vineyards produces about 15,000 cases of wine annually. About 25% of our production is Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grown on our 50-acre, organically farmed Conn Valley ranch. The vineyard is managed by Maldonado Vineyard Management. We purchase additional grapes from a select group of growers, among them the Sangiacomo family of the Carneros District, Will Nord of Napa, Cam Thieriot of Sonoma Coast, Lee Hudson of Carneros, Jay and Pam Heminway of Chiles Valley, Rich Pato of Oakley, and the Tofanelli family of Calistoga." -Winery

This scored 88 points in the Wine Spectator.

2007 Firriato Etna Rosso Cavanera:
"The 2007 Etna Rosso Cavanera (Nerello Mascalese-Nerello Cappuccio) possesses wonderful richness and depth in the mid-weight style that is the hallmark of the wines of the Etna. Succulent red cherries, raspberries, licorice, tobacco and sweet spices are some of the nuances that emerge from this beautiful, harmonious wine. Sweet, candied notes add a sense of lift on the finish. This is a remarkably polished, complete wine from Firriato. With a little better use of oak, this could be an even more expressive and complete wine, a frightening prospect considering how terrific it is already. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2019. " -92+ Points - Antonio Galloni - Wine Advocate

VITICULTURE:
"Nerello Mascalese 80% and Nerello Cappuccio 20% Territory of Castiglione di Sicilia (Catania, Sicily) Loamy –sandy of volcanic origin, highly draining North eastern side of the Volcano (500/600 metres above sea level)" -Winemaker

VINIFICATION:
"The vinification carried out in controlled-temperature steel tanks in accordance to red wines tradition. The malolactic fermentation is carried out. 6 months in durmast barriques" -Winemaker

VARIETIES:
"Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio are grown almost exclusively in the Sicily and Sardinia regions of Italy. An Italian study published in 2008 determined that these varieties are most closely related genetically to Sangiovese."

This wine also scored 85 Points by the Wine Spectator.
