93 Pts Wine Enthusiast

"This 50-50 blend of Sangiovese and Merlot is one of the best red wines produced in Umbria. The Lamborghini family (of automotive fame) delivers a plush, modern- and yes, racy- red with dark concentration and generous tones of ripe cherry, vanilla and sweet spice. It has a chewy, plush feel in the mouth with bright freshness on the close."- 93 Points - Wine Enthusiast

"The estate's top bottling, the 2005 Campoleone, is a cuvee of equal parts Sangiovese and Merlot that spent 12 months in French oak. A full-bodied, racy red, the wine possesses compelling layers of dark cherries, licorice, mint, tobacco, sweet herbs and French oak in an elegant, beautifully balanced style. Today the wine comes across as quite primary, but it should develop nicely with time in the bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020."- 92 Points - Antonio Galloni - Wine Advocate

"Aromas of ripe plum, blackberry, soft, claylike minerals and flowers follow through to a silky, full-bodied palate, with quiet intensity and good length. Tannic and a little austere now. Best after 2011. 2,300 cases made."- 90 Points - Wine Spectator

WINE:
"Campoleone is a red IGT from Umbria and is the primary wine of the estate. It is 50% Sangiovese and 50% Merlot. The new vineyards have a density of 5,500 plants per hectare and the yield per plant is never over 1 kilogram of fruit. Maceration on the skins lasts for 22 days. Malolactic fermentation follows in new French barriques, where the wine is allowed to rest 12 months in the same barriques. The two varietals are kept completely separate until the cuvee is assembled. The wine is then bottled and allowed to rest 6 months."

"This Merlot/Sangiovese blend has an extraordinary perfume of saddle leather, smoke, cassis, prunes, and plums. A rich full-bodied, voluptuously textured wine, with layers of concentrated fruit and sweet tannins. A magnificent seamlessness with a huge, explosive long finish. It is a wine of great stature as well as intensity." -Importer
