Description:

2007 XAVIER VACQUEYRAS:
"The prodigious, full-bodied 2007 Vacqueyras boasts a deep ruby/plum/purple color along with dazzling levels of blackberry and kirsch fruit interwoven with notions of licorice, camphor, and scorched earth. It possesses remarkable intensity and purity as well as a skyscraper-like mouthfeel. Consume it over the next 10+ years."

"An exciting discovery during my recent tastings in the Rhone Valley, this small Vacqueyras estate, 10 acres, produces just one wine, a brilliant blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre from low yields, and what appears to be impeccable winemaking. The wine’s upbringing is accomplished in small barrels (two- thirds) and foudre (one-third). This estate also owns 7.5 acres of vines in Gigondas, from which they produce a sensational blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, and 10% Syrah that is aged in equal parts small barrels and tank." -91-93 points Robert Parker

"Saturated ruby. Classic southern Rhone aromas of ripe red berries, garrigue, anise and smoky minerals. Juicy and expansive, with a restrained sweetness to the rich flavors of dark cherry, raspberry preserves and candied flowers. Mounts impressively on the finish, which echoes the cherry and anise notes and leaves a smoky quality behind." -91 points- Josh Raynolds- International Wine Cellar

WINE:
"This wine has a beautiful red color. On the nose, it will open in the years to come, and is characterized by spicy notes and red and black fruit. On the mouthfeel, the notes on the nose translate to the palate. The tannic structure is dense but elegant, and already easy to drink. The long finish only further characterizes the quality of the wine." -Winery

2007 DOMAINE DES AMOURIERS LES GENESTES VACQUEYRAS:
"Their top cuvee, from the oldest vines and the very best parcels of the estate, is the 2007 Vacqueyras Les Genestes, which is a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah, all aged in tank. Fuller-bodied, deeper, with more substance and dimension to its flavors, and considerably longer, this is an impressively endowed, full-bodied Vacqueyras with loads of licorice, roasted herbs, smoked meats, and plenty of black cherry and blackberry fruit. It is a super Vacqueyras to drink over the next 6-7 years."

"Proprietor Jocelyn Chudzikiewicz's Domaine des Amouriers has always been one of my reference points for high quality Vacqueyras. From their 25 acres in this appellation, they generally make three cuvees, two from Vacqueyras and a Vin de Pays from 100% Syrah. While the Signature is generally a blend of 68% Grenache and the rest Syrah, Les Genestes is usually 65% Grenache and 35% Syrah. These wines are aged completely in cement tanks before bottling." -91 points Robert Parker

"Vivid ruby. Powerful aromas of dark berry preserves, potpourri and olive, with a spicy note gaining strength with air. Boysenberry and black raspberry flavors provide impressive palate coverage, with zesty minerality adding lift and good back-end cut. Leaves spicy red and dark berry notes behind on the long, focused finish." -91 points- Josh Raynolds- International Wine Cellar

WINERY:
"The Chudzikiewicz family arrived to Rhone from Poland in the 19th century. A man from the family married a daughter from Amouriers in Vacqueyras. Jocelyn Chudzikiewicz who was an educated oenolog took over from his father in 1979 and ran the place until 1997 when he was tragicaly killed in a trafic accident. Patrick Gras worked in the cellars when Jocelyn Chudzikiewicz was in charge and today he is still the man who takes care of the details. A son of Jocelyn Chudzikiewicz, Igor Chudzikiewicz, is the sparring partner to Patrick Gras."

"The name of the domain 'Amouriers' is the provencal word for 'mûrier' which means mulberry, referring to the trees growing in the fields of the domain at the time when silk was an important source of income in the area. The domain covers 25 ha in the appellations Vacqueyras (6,5 ha), Cotes du Rhone and VDP du Vaucluse. The wines are aged in cement tanks for a period of up to 18 months, except two cuvées which are aged in barrels." -The Wines of Chateauneuf du Pape, Chateuneuf.dk
