90 Pts Robert Parker - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"A real surprise is the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Scherrer Vineyard. Dark ruby/purple with notes of black currant, licorice, and earth, the wine is pure, deep, full-bodied, and moderately tannic. It is a brilliant example of Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and should age nicely for at least 12-15 years." -90 points Robert Parker

"Deep red. Initially backward nose showed redcurrant, dark cherry, musky underbrush and pipe tobacco with aeration. Midweight red and dark berry flavors display very good concentration and youthful tannic grip, slowly gaining suave vanilla and baking spice character. Finishes juicy, with good mineral snap and a late note of anise. Nicely balanced cabernet." -90 Points - Josh Raynolds - International Wine Cellar

WINE:
"The Cabernet Sauvignons are vinified with destemmed (but uncrushed) fruit in open-top vats- with manual human punchdown during fermentation, and extended time on skins before pressing. They are also allowed to age on initial lees, generally for 6 to 9 months before first racking. Additionally, they are racked very infrequently, necessitating extra time in barrel to fully develop before bottling. This takes nearly three years. I have found this to preserve certain nuances in the fruit as well as texture over the long run. This is important to me, especially as these are 100% varietal wines. Fortunately, there is enough soil variation within the vineyard, I am able to blend the different soil types for complexity and balance each vintage." -Winery

WINERY:
"In the mid-1970's, due to a normal teenage interest in alcoholic beverages, my family allowed me to make some wine from the family vineyard and beer at home (under adult supervision, of course). This led to a UC Davis degree as well as concurrent work at a local winery doing the dirtiest and most menial jobs imaginable...Enter Dehlinger Winery in the late 1980's. Tom Dehlinger was very supportive of my long-term plans and challenged me to develop a solid business plan, facilitating an important entry into my own project. By 1997, we were ready to make the move to a facility of our own. In anticipation of this, we were able to add Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay to supplement the Zinfandel we were producing, all from my father's vineyard in Alexander Valley." -Winery
