93 Pts Jay Miller - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2004 Pinot Noir Litoral Vineyard raises the bar a bit higher. It has an exquisite perfume of smoke, spice, and an amalgam of red fruits. Velvety-textured, layered, and already complex, this concentrated, lengthy Pinot is difficult to resist now but should evolve effortlessly for 4-6 years and drink well through 2020." -93 points- Wine Advocate

"Passion, resilience, endurance and entrepreneurship are all part of Maria Luz Marín’s personal and professional philosophy, which transcends her winemaking. Described as “a winemaker to reckon with” by Jancis Robinson, MW, María Luz Marín has undoubtedly become one of the most influential and innovative personalities in the Chilean wine industry. Located in the town of Lo Abarca, in the San Antonio Valley, surrounded by Chile’s coastal mountain range and only 4 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, Casa Marín has been described as “the most radical vineyard site in the country” by Wine & Spirits Magazine."

"Closest to the ocean, the Litoral vineyard is characterized by calcareous soil facing the ocean. The cool and quite windy climate imparts high tannin maturity and exceptional fruit character. Cold pre-fermentation maceration is followed by 100% barrel fermentation and 100% malolactic fermentation in 50% new French oak. Barrel aged for 12 months and bottled unfiltered to better express the wine character."

"Moderately dark color with a bright red rim (bodes well for aging). Aromas of cherry and red berry with hints of cool climate cranberry framed in wisps of smoky peat hearth fire. Flavors are bright, with firm acid structure supporting the same fruit tones perceptible in the aroma- very persistent! Finish lingers with long, late acid backbone carrying the red berry late into the aftertaste." -Importer

Jay Miller of the Wine Advocate originally scored this 90 points and later raised his rating to 93 points. On Cellar Tracker, five different reviewers gave this a median of 89 points. See their reviews here: http://www.cellartracker.com//wine.asp?iWine=211088. The Wine Spectator rated this 87 points.
