"Sassocheto is sourced from the estate’s oldest vineyard, Piano Nero, and sees 25 months in French and Slavonian oak of various sizes. The 2016 Brunello Di Montalcino Sassocheto reveals a delicate extraction of color, with aromatics of dried red raspberry, clove, broken-in leather, and rose hip. Medium-bodied, with elegant, fine-grained tannins, tart red fruit, orange zest, and rooibos, its lively and energetic drive has a long finish without being austere. There is a lot to love here in this lifted style and it will be great to revisit over the next 15 years."

"Refined, complex, with a sanguine taste. Il Sassocheto is the excellence of our Brunello production. Our first choice, the result of selective harvests carried out exclusively by hand. It is a wine with a strong identity. As honest and genuine as the vineyard from which it is born - the Piano Nero - located at 300 meters above sea level and characterized by a perfect southern exposure and a deep and balanced soil, rich in skeleton. Structured and complex, it is at the same time lively and enjoyable on the palate, extraordinarily inviting on the nose, with its pleasant olfactory notes and a good aromatic persistence. It is vinified in an open tank with integrated fermentation and prolonged maceration, matures in French and Slavonian oak barrels for over 25 months, aging refines its characteristics in the bottle for about 6 months.
