93 Pts Wine Spectator
"This polished, graceful red shows a mix of fresh and maturing flavors, with plum and currant notes balanced by loamy earth, underbrush and leather accents. Smooth on the palate, with well-integrated tannins and gentle acidity. Drink now through 2027. 800 cases made, 100 cases imported. â TM"
We've said it before, and we'll say it again - Spain offers some of the greatest VALUE there is in the wine world!
The perfect example is this 2012 Valdoso Ribera del Duero Tinto, which scored an outstanding 93 Points from Wine Spectator and comes in at under $20 a bottle - tremendous QPR here!
The northwestern region of Castile y León is home to the Ribera del Duero district, roughly 60 miles north of Madrid. Tempranillo is the main varietal grown here, and Ribera del Duero's mesoclimate of semi-arid terrain, lots of bright sun, and diverse soils and exposures that hug the Duero River provides the perfect locale for growing incredible fruit!
This wine is everything you want from Tempranillo - fresh, bright red fruit with a gentle background of leather and Spanish garrigue.
Amazing stuff, smack dab in the middle of its drinking window, and at $20 it truly is one of the best red values you will encounter this season!
