"A barrel sample blend of 66% Zinfandel, 19% Petite Sirah, 6% Mourvèdre, 6% Carignan and 3% Grenache, the 2016 Mixed Blacks offers a very deep garnet-purple color and gregarious nose of baked plums, blueberry compote and raspberry tart with hints of anise, black pepper and violets plus a waft of garrigue. Full-bodied, soft, rich and seductive, the palate is boldly flavored, with a plush texture and plenty of freshness, finishing on a compelling peppery note. 252 cases will be made."

"Purchased from the Martinis in 1999 by Leslie Rudd, owner of Rudd Estate, Edge Hill’s history dates back to 1867. Located in St. Helena on the edge of the Mayacamas mountains, I'm told the original winery, vineyards and grounds are being diligently restored by Rudd, which in itself is an exciting story. More to the point, tasting these wines for the first time, and without having seen the property or vineyards, there is something incredibly singular and evocative about the character of the Mixed Blacks and Abel 1833 that is not just delicious, but compelling, conjuring a real sense of unique vineyard personality.
