The highly touted 2015 vintage in Brunello di Montalcino has been described as a "fairytale vintage", "stellar" and "top-quality." It was a perfect storm: vineyards across Tuscany were warm and sun-drenched, and there was just enough rain to keep vines satiated when they required water, and cool evenings to chill clusters at nighttime. This departure from the challenging 2014 vintage was especially true for the Sangiovese in Brunello, which excelled under the near-perfect 2015 conditions.
Elisa Fanti and her team have absolutely excelled with their 2015 Brunello di Montalcino. The wine expresses exactly what the vintage provided: bright floral notes on the nose, and the stereotypical Sangiovese character of ripe red fruits - strawberries, cherries - balanced with milder notes of leather and baking spices.
