"Brown brick red color. Earthy aromas and flavors of cassis and pomegranate, spiced nuts, cocoa, and sandalwood with a supple, bright, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and a tingling, intricate, long finish manifesting accents of cedar, earth, and olives with earthy, medium tannins and moderate oak flavor. A stately red with treasure chest of flavor and terroir."

93 Pts Wine Enthusiast

"This impressive wine is full of black fruits as well as dark tannins. Its structure and density comes from the vineyard that abuts grand cru estates in Saint-Julien. The wine has power while as well as the elegance of the appellation. Drink from 2023."

Description:

When it comes to finding value in a place that is most known for having some of the most expensive wine in the world, it isn't necessarily easy, but it is possible. With some research into the small wineries all over Bordeaux we have found one with one of the best backgrounds of all.

Château Moulin de la Rose is a wine in Bordeaux that you may have never heard of, but it is time to put them on the map. This small winery owns just under 12 acres of vines in the famous appellation of Saint-Julien, on the Left Bank in Bordeaux. It is nestled in between some big names wineries like Ducru-Beaucaillou, Leoville Barton, Beychevelle, and Gruaud-Larose. 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, is all hand harvested from their estate vineyards.

While the location of the vines are enough to justify buying this wine, it is extremely important to know that the consulting winemaker here is Eric Boissenot. He is one of the biggest names in Bordeaux and consults for many of the most famous wineries, including three out of the five First Growths, Chateau Latour, Lafite-Rothschild, and Mouton Rothschild. There is not a wine in the world that this man has had his hands on that isn't collectible and doesn't go for at least twice what you are paying for Château Moulin de la Rose.

2014 gets hidden as a vintage by a couple great years in the last decade, but it will go down as one of the best for value. It is a great vintage to pick up a couple bottles from amazing producers at a fraction of the price that you would pay in some other vintages. The 2014s are starting to drink very well right now, so don't be afraid to open these up, but this is also a good vintage to lay down for a couple years. This will be a great wine to put away for short term aging while you are waiting for your 2010s, 2015s, and 2016s to finally open up.
