"Brilliant ruby. A powerfully scented bouquet evokes ripe red & dark berries, incense & pungent flowers, & a smoky Indian spice nuance builds in the glass. Fleshy & broad on entry and then tighter in the middle, offering juicy, concentrated black raspberry & boysenberry flavors given spine by juicy acidity. Rich yet energetic, finishing with outstanding clarity & sweet persistence & shaped by smooth tannins". |
Description:
Clos Saint-Jean is considered by critics, sommeliers and consumers alike to be among the top properties of the Southern Rhône. Wine Advocate comments, âThe tasting of the five 2007 cuvées must rank among the greatest single tasting in the southern Rhône I have ever done in 30+ years of wine tasting. Last year I sensed something special was happening, and the bottled 2007s confirm that something rare had occurred in the vineyards and cellars of Clos Saint-Jean.â The estate now boasts four 100 point wines, sourced from their extraordinary old vine plots, including choice parcels in the famed La Crau district of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
The property makes one white and four red cuvées all using the same winemaking philosophy, just from different blends from different parcels. Grenache in aged in tank only while Syrah and Mourvedre are aged in one- and two-year-old demi-muids, and occasionally, smaller barrels." - Impoorter
