98 Pts Andreas Larsson - Blindtasted.com

"Slightly more red fruit, rose, violet, raspberry, sexy with a meaty spiciness. Very dense palate, finely grains with sweet raspberry, ginger, clove, seamless tannins, intense flavours with a sexy texture and a very long, suave and delicate finish. Excellent."

94 Pts Antonio Galloni - Vinous

"The 2016 Roc de Cambes is powerful, tightly wound and closed in on itself. That should not be an issue, but readers should be prepared to be patient. Iron, smoke, tobacco, cedar, menthol and licorice all add aromatic nuance to a core of dark fruit. I also tasted a bottle that had been opened two days prior. There I found a wine of amplitude and breadth. This is another superb 2016 from the Mitjavile family."

93 Pts Neal Martin - Vinous Media

"The 2016 Roc de Cambes was mighty impressive from barrel. Bottled in August 2018, it has retained a beguiling bouquet of perfumed red plum, blueberry, tayberry and light estuarine scents, plus a tang of a cold northern sea. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet candied opening, dark chocolate and even toffee subtly interwoven into the red fruit. The spicy finish features a healthy sprinkling of black pepper. This is an outstanding Roc de Cambes that, dare I suggest, is going to give Tertre-Rôteboeuf a run for its money."

Description:

This is a stunning entry level offer from one of our favorite producers in the region!

"Roc de Cambes is located in the Cotes de Bourg appellation. This is not that far from St. Emilion. In fact, the estates geographical location provided the inspiration for the name of the domaine, as it is located in the commune of St. Laurent des Combes. Soon after Francois Mitjavile purchased the vineyard in late 1987, he named his new winery, Chateau Roc de Cambes. When the owner, Francois Mitjavile purchased the estate in 1988, Roc de Cambes required extensive replanting work in the vineyards and modernizations in the cellars. The chateau that was constructed in the mid to late 1700’s also needed renovations.

1998 marked the debut vintage for Domaine Roc de Cambes. That name was shortened to Roc de Cambes in 1994. The vineyard is situated not far from the Bordeuax city center and it is also less than 30 kilometers due south of St. Emilion.

Interestingly, Roc de Cambes has a terroir that is not much different from Tertre Roteboeuf, their legendary, St. Emilion estate, which is also owned by the Mitjavile family. That explains in part, why Roc de Cambes was purchased by the Mitjavile family." - Wine Cellar Insider
