94 Pts Wine Enthusiast

"From the most famous sector in Morgon, this wine reveals the intense flavor from the steeply sloped, well-exposed vineyard. The wine, with concentration from old vines, has black-fruit-skin and blackberry flavors. Packed with tannins and acidity, it will age. Drink from 2020. -RV"

92 Pts Decanter

"A gruffer, stonier, less evidently fruity scent than many of its peers, though warm, vivid red fruits are nonetheless in evidence. On the palate, this is a dense, close-grained and impressively structured – textured, grippy, warm, almost meaty, packed with an energy which comes from fruit but which seems to express so much more than fruit. "

91 Pts Wine Spectator

"Glazed raspberry and red licorice notes are front and center in this plump, medium-bodied red, with integrated, tangy acidity highlighting the floral, ground spice and strawberry elements midpalate. Hints of marjoram mark the chewy finish. Drink now through 2022. 3,000 cases made. "

"While many of the Beaujolais crus are granite, Morgon is 'granite and more granite,' says Dominique Piron, who represents the 14th generation of his family to work in Morgon's vineyards. He's also president of the Beaujolais Wine Council and a top producer. Piron's production epitomizes what has happened in Morgon. No Longer does he make general blends from across the appellation. His wines highlight individual terroirs: the dramatic Cote du Py, with its bluestone volcanic granite on slopes up to 1,500 feet." - Wine Enthusiast

Cru Morgon, one of the famous Cru Beaujolais, is based in the heart of northern Beaujolais. Côte du Py is the heart of Morgon, a little hill of very old blue stone rocks, the oldest soils of Beaujolais (around 400 000 millions years old), with a very blue characteristic color. It is known for centuries in Morgon that Côte du Py is the best terroir of the village, producing long lived wines with strong structure and flavors.

Wines of the Cote du Py are very dark and profound, very dense. Aromas are very classic of cherry, kirsh and stone of the fruits. Very mineral, graphite, spices like black and white pepper.

Wine can live a long life, more than 25 years old for the best vintages is not a problem! Older gamays of Cote du Py smells like old rose, and floral aromas. Young, it is better to drink them at 16/17°C, and older around 18°C. Cote du Py being a quite strong wine, it goes very well with red meat like beef, but also duck and why not game during the fall (Hare, Dear, Wild Pork,…) and good cheeses.
