90 Pts David Schildknecht - Vinous Media
"Analytically very much trocken, although not labeled as such, this bottling impressively combines a sense of stuffing with one of surprising levity and transparency, not to mention sheer refreshment. Apple and grapefruit are marked by chewy and piquant expressions of their skins and seeds as well as tinged with regionally typical mint and tarragon. The finish here is seriously sustained and slate-lined."
"Now we're talking! 100% steep slopes. Fine shale wort and deep minerality with the best drinking flow - the taste of the terraced Moselle!
The roots of our winery go back to the year 1642. Since the founding of the domaine in its present form in 1990, our motto has been respect.
Respect for a traditional grape variety which unlike any other conveys the influences of its location: The Riesling.
Respect for a wine culture which has united the slate, the steep sites, the river landscape, and the grapes over a centuries-long process. Respect for the process of developing diversity in styles, weights, and tastes unimaginable in any other of the worldâs wine-growing regions.
We are ambassadors of the wines that we create hereârepresentatives with an idea, a goal, and a concept. Moreover, we allow for variations and peculiarities when observing our productâs development, thus leaving the character of every site, parcel, vintage, and tank or barrel intact. This means we »accept« the given raw materials and avoid the slimming down of »big« vintages and the thickening of »small« ones. Hence, we adhere to natural wine principles.
Patience allows for the natural processes to develop in their own timing and is the most important maxim of our cellar philosophy. We renounce cultured yeasts, fining agents, de-acidification, and the use of must for sweetening. We also take our time for pre-fermentation maceration, encourage slow fermentation, and long ageing on the fine lees. Fortunately, we can always fall back on a reservoir of old, partly non-grafted vines, whose finest steep slate sites yield highly differentiated aromas. Our Rieslings are wines with depth, elegance, and a personality derived in great part from their naturally low yields." - Winery
